more and more the companys are charging the same for dvds but u get less for your money.. the extras are not being included plus they are making dvd video and sound downgraded just to sell the blu rays better and to push ppl into buying blu rays before they are ready to..
i think blu ray is pretty overrated too.. blu ray discs seem to be upconverted dvds really.. just "superbit DVD" quality.. the audio isn't much better if that than dvds use dto be when they were being pushed on to ppl.. i 'd love to see a public backlash.. forcing companys/studios to offer better quality on both formats ![]() http://www.dvdplaza.com.au/forums/sh...ad.php?t=36442 |

Your wrong about Blu-ray's PQ and AQ quality not being a big jump.
DVD: 720 x 480 with a total pixel count of 345,600 8.5GB of storage lossy compressed audio 35mm film: scanned in for editing at 4096 x 2160 or 2048 x 1080(over 90% of movies scanned in at this resolution) with a total pixel count of 8,631,360 or 2,157,840 4K scans requiring terabytes of storage audio recorded and mixed in 24bit/48Khz PCM Blu-ray 1920 x 1080 with a total pixel count of 2,073,600 dual layer discs hold 50GB of data. audio stored in 24bit/48Khz PCM or other lossless audio compression codecs. |

Hahaha, I hope your not serious, you would need a very small tv at a relativly large viewing distance to not be able to tell the difference in video, but the audio will still be noteably different. I hope the OP was bieng funny/sarcastic/witty, or has very bad hearing and sight.
lol, the very idea of superbit dvd's bieng as good as blu ray is hillarious. |

Anybody who can't see or hear the difference between Blu-ray and DVD seriously either needs to visit the optometrist or the audiologist. If not that then they should open up the instruction manual for their gear and check your setup. |

i'm guessing you don't have a true home theatre system. meaning hdtv via hdmi cable. digital amp with the appropriate speakers (minimum 5.1). because your post sounds very naive. i don't expect one member here to agree with you. everyone & anyone with the correct set up can only be blown away with blueray. there's no way anyone can react any less. you might as well say dvd was no advance over vhs. laughable.....

Some blu ray is only 25gb so doesn't get to take full advantage of the 50gb to spread its legs & offer hd audio
Some only have dolby & dts audio... Warner seems to only offer 16bit dolby hd atm still.. but I think they are working on releasing some dts master audio soon.. though still might be 16bit.. can't confirm on that But in general, the quality of the 50gb with 24bit/48 audio looks + sounds great.. soo much better than the dvd. Kingdom of heaven extended blu ray looks & sounds amazing much better. One of my fav movies My next blu ray buy is looking towards T-Salvation.. hopefully the 3min extra version is good |

Perhaps. Not to put you down or anything, but uh, is your TV HD? I suspect that without HDMI, you might not be seeing Blu-Ray movies at their fullest resolution.

In My personal opinion HD Audio is more noticeable than PQ on Blu-ray. When i buy or rent a title on Blu i am generally more excited to hear Audio track than view the PQ. Unless of course its a title which doesn't contain a good sound mix, eg. some comedies. |

I disagree. Standard DVDs released in the last few years look better than ever.

You just told us WHY you can't see the difference between DVD and Blu Ray. Blu ray is significantly sharper, clearer, more define, higher resolution and more detailed then any dvd audio and video wise, IF you have the right cable(HDMI), TV (recommended 1080p resolution), and for sound, a kick-ass HDMI output AVR, and of course the right movie. Example would be any Disney/Pixars film.
When you have those, and if your setup is right, let us know if what you think then. |
