Arrow Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Check out this teaser for a project I hadn't even heard of before. I'm looking forward to seeing the actual trailer when it hits to see how it looks

Quote:
AOL has just debuted the teaser trailer for Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief based on the book by Rick Riordan. 17-year-old Logan Lerman stars as Percy Jackson, a boy who discovers that he's the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the gods. While this does seem to play a bit more to the younger demographic, the one thing I am excited about is the return of the teaser that barely shows any real footage. Also, don't forget, as dark as this looks, it's actually a comedy - Sean Bean plays Zeus and Steve Coogan plays Hades.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is directed by Chris Columbus, of everything from Adventures in Babysitting to Home Alone to Mrs. Doubtfire to Bicentennial Man to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets to the Rent remake to I Love You Beth Cooper from this year. The screenplay was written by Craig Titley of Scooby-Doo and the two Cheaper by the Dozen movies previously. This is based on Rick Riordan's series of children's books. 20th Century Fox is bringing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief to theaters everywhere on February 12th, 2010 next year. Thoughts?
Check it out here in HD

Looks like it could be good. I had no idea this was being made into a movie.

I saw the latest book The Last Olympian at Borders and I asked the clerk what it was about and have been wondering about it ever since.

Has anyone read any of the books? Is it a good read? I dig Greek Mythology and I love the Harry Potter series.

Saw this trailer before Harry Potter: HBP today and had never heard of it before. Both the wife and I thought it could be cool.

my kids have read all the books and that means I get to also..

it is a great storyline, and, has the potential of being really good like Harry Potter, filmwise....if they put some money into this series, it will sell very well.

Trailer 2

Quote:
Though it settles into exactly the same groove as the previously released teaser trailer just half of the way through, the new, second trailer for Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief finally gives us a look at what we want to see - the name-actor stars of the film. There’s Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson, Steve Coogan and Sean Bean in here, if rather briefly. I have to say I’m digging Pierce’s beard - check it out for yourself in the embed below the break.

The exact provenance of this trailer is mysterious to me, but it appears to have been uploaded to YouTube just yesterday. It very often turns out that such trailers have been captured from DVDs so, does anybody out there know which disc(s) this is on, if any?

Ray Winston, Uma Thurman,Catherine Keener and Joe Pantoliano are still under-wraps as yet but there’s plenty of time for another trailer before the film rolls out on February 12th next year.

If you think that the statue of Zeus is true to the likeness of Sean Bean and the busted-up Hades has something of Steve Coogan’s look about it, then perhaps you’ll also be able to see Kevin McKidd in the sculpted Poseidon. I think I can see Bean in the marble Zeus, but I’m not sure about the other two.

Selling Chris Columbus‘ involvement might seem halfwitted at best to the film hardcore (at least these days) but that Harry Potter connection will probably translate directly into dollars. Talking of which, here’s how I explained the film’s premise the last time I covered it:

Quote:
The premise in the Percy Jackson series is not entirely dissimilar to that of the Potter saga either, with a troubled schoolchild finding out his secret magical heritage and, eventually, stepping into a more wondrous life. Whereas Potter went off to Hogwarts, Jackson can be seen in this very trailer [note: also in this second trailer] taking an elevator to Mount Olympus. Wizards, gods… all the same mumbo jumbo, right? Of course, this paradigm was nesting grandma spider long before the Potter books became so inexplicably successful.

Not sure what i think about this. I've read the books, and in the first one he's supposed to be 12 i think and they cast a 17year old. And the girl sidekick is supposed to be Blond. And if i read right, they have Alpa Chino from Tropic Thunder as the Satyr. But i will give Chris Columbus the benefit of the doubt because he pulled off Harry Potter.

I actually just finished reading the entire series, and I honestly loved them. Keep in mind, they're not "adult" books, but they're extremely entertaining (lots of comedy and action) and they do a pretty good job of making greek mythology relevant again. I'll gladly watch the movie (hopefully they'll follow the books).

PS: I'm also a huge Potter fan, and although I prefer Potter I would recomend Percy to anyone looking for a fun and magical series to read.

Nah I was only saying, I though the trailer looks ok, but I dunno what to make of the film quite yet, I don't really buy into fantasy unless its got something for me to releate to.

Just saw this on Quicktime's site. Doesn't show much, but it looks cool. However, Chris Columbus meddling around with Greek Mythology is going to be ......interesting.......
