Default Drug-related BD's

What are some good addiction/drug-related BDs? I've got Requiem for a Dream and I'm about to order Blow.

There a lot of drug related movies. "Go" is another one that I could think of right off the top of my head. There are a few other movies, like "Alpha Dog" that are in HD DVD.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - arguably the most bizarre of this "genre"

Edit: come to think of it, I think that one is announced but not out yet

A Scanner Darkly and Traffic are the only other BDs about addiction I can think of at the moment.

Wait for these films to appear on Blu-ray:

Drugstore Cowboy
The Panic in Needle Park
The Man With the Golden Arm

Alcohol related addiction films:

Days of Wine and Roses
The Lost Weekend
Clean and Sober
Leaving Las Vegas

For camp value:

Reefer Madness

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Friday yet. I have yet to see it in Blu but the review here says it's a decent transfer.

Speaking of Friday, anyone know if the Cheech & Chong movies are coming to Blu? I hope Up in Smoke at least gets a good transfer.

Anyways these, and the already mentioned Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, coming February 2nd, and Drugstore Cowboy (coming soon I hope.)

Drugstore Cowboy was a fantastic and bizarre film, definitely one of Gus Van Sant's best.

Also for the old school ravers out there like me, It be nice to see Groove make it's way to Blu-Ray too, fun movie.

Thanks for the suggestions.

When I said drugs, I didn't mean stoner comedies. I want some drama movies that depict the psychological aspects of addiction and drug use, like Requiem for a Dream (my new favorite movie).

True, if you like Requiem for a Dream then you'll wanna check out Trainspotting if you haven't already seen it, it's on Blu but not in this region yet, perhaps you can still track it down. (Amazon Canada has it)

Also if a DVD will do, check out Drugstore Cowboy, I think you'll really like that.

Just put Drugstore Cowboy and Trainspotting (the DVD...it was $15 cheaper, lol) in my Amazon cart, along with Blow and the NIN Live BD.

Any more movies that are psychologically deep?

You know Aaron, now that I think about it, since you really liked Requiem for a Dream, you'll probably really like The Wrestler, directed by Requiem director Darren Aronofsky, it's very similar to Requiem in that's very emotional and psychologically deep and like Requiem (at least for me) leaves you quite depressed at the tragedy of it all at the end.

What really made the movie special was the film was more or less a metaphor for lead man Mickey Rourke's life and career. Also having been a life long wrestling fan I seen quite a few not be able to give it up and go off the deep end. (Hulk Hogan comes to mind right now)

Absolutely great film, and I don't care what anyone says, Mickey Rourke deserved the Oscar for this film, not Sean Penn for Milk.

Other than Blue Velvet...... I would say "Traffic" is a good one....

Not too deep in that level, but "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" is a great drug-genre movie..... (also check out "Where the Buffalo Roam" it's another Hunter S. Thompson piece...)

How about "Maria Full of Grace" that's a good one.... It's about girls from Bolivia (I think) that are used as drug-mules and stuffed full of drugs and sent to the U.S.

"Deep Cover" is a GREAT one... it's from when Lawrence Fishburn was "Larry" Fishburn
"Bad Lieutenant" is a good one with Harvey Kietel.....

"The Panic in Needle Park" is great.... especially if you're a Pacino Fan...

"SLC Punk" is another in the lines of "Trainspotting"

If you can track down a copy of "La vendedora de rosas" check it out too..... it's Columbian (again.... I 'think' it is) about inhaling shhhhhtuff.......

That's about all I can think of going through my DVD collection off the top of my head....

Good luck.... (Blue Velvet is highly recommended)
