Bi-Amping

I see on some of the gallery pictures, some people are bi-amping speakers using only one receiver without an external amp. How did they do that.

I didn't know this was possible. Forgive me if I just sounded like an idiot.
I am just trying to learn how all this works.

Depending on your speakers, you can bi-amp when you have a 5.1 set up. Here's a good thread on the subject: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=56058

DOn't confuse bi-wiring and bi-amping.

I bi-wire my speakers because I don't like the look of jumpers. I don't think it does a thing sonically for my speakers.

Bi-amping is when you connect the high-pass binding posts to one amplifier and the lo-pass binding posts to a second amplifier. Some 7 channel amps will let you set an option where the surround back channels can be used as the "bi-amp" for your fronts. Therefore, you can only only have a 5.1 setup (unless you have a receiver that supports more than 7.1 setup.

would it be beneficial to get 2 amps for my polk 60's, one for each?? If so what would be a good amp and how would you hook it up

Well, you could get a 3-channel amp and have it run your front three Polk speakers.

Emotiva is an inexpensive route to get your feet wet with external amps.

Hooking it up is quite easy. Since your 706 has pre-outs, you would need 3 RCA cables to connect the pre-out connections on your Onkyo to the unbalanced in's on the Emotiva amp.

I would re-run any audio calibration and tweak it to your liking.
