Default Biggest 2012 Box Office

Starting with this weekend and Hunger games being released, I started to wonder what will be the biggest money maker this year? What do you guys think?

There are many movies, but I only put the movies in the poll that seem to have a chance of being the biggest money makers.

To Clarify:
*This is for any movie released in 2012. Please include the entire theatrical run of The Hobbit when making your decision. Obivisouly, with a December release it has no chance unless you count its entire run.

I think it'll come down to Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, with Prometheus and Hunger Games battling for third.

I think it will be the Avengers. There is so much hype about this movie it is unreal. I think TDKR will be 2nd with Prometheus or the Hobbit in 3rd and 4th.

What's the "Avengars"?

I'll pick the Avengers.

Not to trash the movie or anything, or does anyone think Prometheus might under-perform? I see so many people hyping it up. And as so many people do after they see it they will be disappointed in it.

I think that is a possibility. I think it will do much better international, then it will in the US.

Batman will take it I think. Avengers certainly has enough hype, but Iron Man is the only movie to even approach TDK box-office from that bunch.

Prometheus may be the dark horse, if it's really good I could see it being huge, but I don't have much faith in Ridley Scott these days.

TDKR will not come anywhere near TDK's gross. Ledger's death is what catapulted that film, sadly.

I think it will be The Dark Knight Rises. Christopher Nolan is going to want to end his trilogy with a bang. I also believe The Amazing Spiderman will battle The Avengers for second place. I would have said The Hobbit could compete for first but it comes out too late (around Christmas) to even be in consideration.

I think it will be The Avengers, Batman will do well but Avengers as been building up steam in the last two years and the movie from what we see so far look's solid.

Hunger Games made 20 million alone on Midnight yesterday.. this movie will definitely be in the top five for the year

The Dark Knight Rises
Twilight Break Dawn Part 2
The Avengers
Hunger Games
The Amazing Spiderman

these are my top 5 predictions

p.s. nice spelling on "the Avengars" in the poll

I see that happening as well, if I weren't a member here I'd never know its connected to Alien.

The Avengers will be the box-office king this year.

I hope it does well but I think that not tying it to Alien in its marketing is a mistake. Most people don't know about the movie or what it is about.

The Dark Knight Rises will underperform... the last film only made that mich due to Ledger's death and the hype surrounding that. It will be big, but nowhere near the same numbers.

Hunger Games will be up there, by the estimations already.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2, which — if the final Harry Potter was any indication — will do enormous business.

Avengers won't be as big as people thing, because women don't really care.

The Hobbit should be big as well.

Promethus won't be huge, mainly because it looks bleak and isn't "based on" anything. Ties to Alien nonwithstanding, that franchise has been done for a while, and younger generations won't really care.

Spider-Man cold go either way, but I see it being bigger than Avengers.

So you're saying it will have the same problem as John Carter did?

I don't know. John Carter's commercials make it look kind of tame and generic, Mars looks like an Earth desert. Of course I didn't read the books for John Carter so don't know more than what I've read in that thread.

Prometheus's trailer looks awesome, but it might not be mainstream either as it is more sci-fi horror looking from the trailer.

Avatar had really poor trailers(to me) and it still completely destroyed the box office.
