Default 5.1 Audio Hook up from BD Player > Receiver

Hi folks,

I just went Blu last week and am absolutely loving it. I made a pretty major upgrade to the whole system, ditching my crappy old Phillips-system-in-a-box SS speakers for the Athena Micra-6 set (which is ridiculous -- I think I'm going to get evicted from my apartment).

My set up:
SONY 42" LCD HDTV (rear projection)
Pioneer Receiver (w/ 5.1 input hookup)
Samsung BD1200 Blu-Ray Player

My question is this: I currently have the audio run from the Samsung BD Player to the Pioneer receiver on a single coax line (there's no optical input on my receiver). The receiver does, however, have the 5.1 coax input where you run a separate coax line for each of the 5 channels in addition to the sub (which is already hooked up separately).

In terms of sound quality, is it worth doing? Worth purchasing the new cables and doing the rewire? I'm open to it, I just want to make sure it's worth the effort.

Thanks!

Most definitely. The 6 channel analog output from your blu-ray player will allow you to capture lossless audio (PCM) or decode DTHD, if the Sammy can. Lossless sound blows way any 5.1 decoded sound you'd get from optical or coax dig output.

Default Receiver

What is the model of the pioneer receiver? You have been upgrading to a very sweet set up, I would suggest instead of going out and buying a bunch of new wire, start looking at a new receiver. The Onkyo 605 is currently a future thinking receiver. $499 may be a bit much right now after the newly acquired speakers and Bluray but if you go trough a coupon code website

http://www.secretprices.com/coupons/...re-c17754.html

and then checking out on the Circuitry City website you will save 10%.
I always suggest saving and buying a reviver that will last technology wise for a while but if instant sound is what you want Onkyo has some nice receivers for $150 to $299.

Good luck and welcome to the world of Bluray.
