Default Pioneer Receiver problem

I just bought the Pioneer VSX-1020-K receiver. I currently have an older Sony HTiB in which I wanted to upgrade the receiver. I'm plugging in all the speaker wires into my new Pionner receiver but ran into a problem with my subwoofer connection. The subwoofer has speaker wire just like all the other speakers, so I can't plug it in to the new receiver. The back of the Pioneer receiver has a pre-out connection, so therefore I can't connect it. I don't have a powered sub, it's passive. What do I do??

I hate to say it but I think your only option here is to buy a powered sub.

You can buy a powered sub (which would be the easiest and also my recommendation), or you can buy a separate one channel amp. Run the pre-out for the sub to the amp, and the connect the sub to the amp.

You may have a problem with the speakers as well. I am sure the impedance of the HTIB speakers is different than the receiver.

Good point.

Unfotunately many HTiB are made so you can't upgrade them one piece at the time. It's often all or nothing.

I am heading to BB to get a powered sub. My speakers are 6 ohms. The Pioneer receiver is 8 ohms. Is that a big problem?
