It isn't even 16:9 so I'm not thinking it has a good chance. Who knows though...it is wickedly popular.

The first seasons were indeed SD 4:3 but the latter ones are broadcasted in 16:9 HD, I think starting from around episode 160 or so.

Nothing's been announced so far and I think it's not high on the priority list of releases, at least as far as the series is concerned. I do have hopes to see the movies relatively soon on Blu-ray though (although, here as well, nothing's been announced so far)

The 16:9 thing doesn't seem to be stopping studios though; some Anime BDs have been re-transfered in 4:3 and put on Blu-Ray already, so it shouldn't be a huge obstacle, it's just that viewers will have to get used to not having the full picture.

But I thought Bleach was relatively new, so why didn't they initially begin it in 16:9? Unless I'm mistaken.

I'd probably double-dip for Bleach on blu-ray. Sad, but I definitely get a certain charge out of the non-filler seasons.

Does VIZ have any track record with blu-ray? Off hand I don't recall them releasing ANYTHING on blu-ray...

Not sure if this will be released on bluray but if you are getting the DVDs don't buy the US version as I think they are released in parts and not full seasons.

I've bought the UK versions and they are full, so far got all the first four ones.

I don't know why for the US they are making them in parts? Is it a way to swallow all the money from customers?? This reminds me of Dynasty DVDs in the US too, they made some seasons in parts and people stopped buying while the European versions got full seasons and the sales were much higher and this encouraged them to offer more seasons, next will be season six.

The old model of releasing anime was to release singles (DVDs with 3-4 episodes), then after those had been out for a year or two release the season sets. Basically charge out the nose for people who had to have it NOW, while people who didn't mind waiting got more for less.

Most anime companies have basically bailed on the singles model for releasing anime. But VIZ... at least with their cash cow series Bleach and Naruto keep releasing the singles then, releasing the season box sets.

So there ARE season sets available for Bleach here in the US...according to Amazon there are actually 11(?!?) now available. So maybe the box sets have caught up with the singles releases.

They plan to start releasing the series on blu-ray starting with box set 1 shipping out on July 19 this year. I don't know how fast and often releases will be, but it's finally happening...to my knowledge at least.

You are mistaken. 16:9 for anime was not used until after Bleach started. And 4:3 IS the full picture for the first 5 sets. You mean "not having the full screen covered" on a widescreen tv.

Price is reasonable for these sets, though they are coming out slowly.

Are the HD widescreen episodes native HD? Or upscaled as well?
