Are there any bluray recorders on the market yet. If so where could I get one?

eBay and it will be a japanese model and its expensive. Sony has said Blu Ray recording for the US is a long way off because they don't see a market for it. Your best bet is to get a PC setup and stick a Blu Ray burner in it and record content to it in this fashion. It beats waiting years for Sony to do something in the US.

Currently they are around 700.00, a bit high considering the blank media is the same cost as the studio released blu-rays. No cost advantage to copying yet. |

By the way, I'm pretty sure it was BDP-S1 and not a recorder as you think. |

Lots of BD recorders in japan, but that's based on japanese standard. In US, there's ATSC, that doesn't have enough programming to warrant this kind of investment.
After that, the best bet is OCAP, (Open Cable) which needs the cable provider to provide a card, and also needs bidirectional DOCSIS connection. This whole development is complex. Other than that, there's the satellite providers, but those things are even less standardized. US HD broadcast scene is much more complex than Japan, which seems to be all ISDB-T and europe which appears to be coalescing around DVB-T. |
