Talking I Bought A Mac Mini!

I decided to go to Amazon and buy a Mac Mini. I purchased mainly to better myself and learn the ins and outs of Mac OS so I can better help people in my profession (IT) and better market myself as well. Why limit yourself to one OS when you can do two?

So, my mini came in on Tuesday. The thing is so small yet hefty. It's like a piece of artwork. I love the simplicity of it. Before it came in, I picked up the Apple aluminum keyboard and the MS blue tooth 5000 mouse. I despise the magic mouse. Apple does NOT know how to make a mouse, sorry. I got everything hooked up and it's a breeze. It's a nice change from using Windows for over 25 years. I decided a few days later that the 2 gig of ram was a bit paltry so I ordered a 4 gig upgrade from Amazon Friday. That came yesterday and I installed it. The machine is much snappier now!

I am very impressed and happy with the purchase. I have not used my Windows machine since I bought it except for a couple of little things. I have even switched from Windows to Mac at work. Again, a much needed change. Something new to learn and play with.

Anyone else have a new mini?

I have a mid-2009 Mini and love it. I got mine with the largest processor and the 4GB RAM. I use it for mostly an iTunes server for my AppleTV, but I have used iMovie to make a little film. It was my first Mac (since the early 1990's) and I was very impressed. So much that I picked up a MacBook Pro a few months ago.

Congrats and welcome to the club!

Very nice! I am happy with my purchase. I rarely use my Windows machine unless I need to. I use it mostly for syncing my iPhone since that's where everything is. For now.

The design is really nice. The mouse is good. A tad smaller than I would want but it works just fine. I tested one out at Best Buy to make sure it wasn't too small. It wasn't. Problem is, there aren't many blue tooth mice out there. So far, I am happy. I got it off Amazon for like $25 bucks shipped. I didn't want another stupid wireless mouse and receiver plugged in. The mini has blue tooth, why not use it? The magic mouse is HORRIBLE! I have one at work and I asked them to order me the Microsoft mouse instead.

Yes, and you can use an Apple application called Front Row to control the media on your Mini.

I have the Magic Track Pad for mine and it is awesome. If you have ever used the MacBook trackpad, it is the same just bigger.

Congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the club. I currently do not own or use a Mac Mini, but I am using a Mirrored Door Drive tower as my home server, and of course I've got the new MacBook Pro like Hammie. I'm hoping to get a Mini at some point this year to replace one or both of my Dell HTPCs. Now that they have HDMI, it makes them pretty much the perfect machine for an HTPC. If only Apple and Netflix allowed HD streaming over a computer.

If could parade-rain a little bit...I really don't understand why they haven't moved to the i3/i5/i7 processors yet and are still going with Core 2 Duo. Even a mobile i3/i5/i7 would be good. I'm sure we'll be seeing that soon, though. I just kind of think it's time for it. I mean: why not?

Anyway, enjoy! I'm sure you'll love it.

Apple is slow to adopt new tech. Not sure why they are like that. The mini I can see why they are still using a core 2 duo. It can be onboard, produces little heat and draws little power. The i3/5/7's are power hungry CPU's and I am not sure they can be made to fit in the confines of the Mini's form factor - number one issue. It would probably over heat.

That's why I was thinking going with a mobile version at fist, then kicking up a notch once they figure out how to make it so isn't as power-hungry and heat-producing. The mobile versions still kick serious butt and obviously do not have those attributes (as much as their desktop counterparts, that is).

I don't want to steal your thunder, though. I'm happy you're part of "us" now. (although honestly I'm a total crossy)

I just do whatever and if I get stuck or break something, brettallica is a whiz, IMO. I'll come seek him out and get his guidance.

There is a Mac thread somewhere. You could post any questions there or within your thread. Someone will answer it. There are a few MacHeads on the site.

I remember that thread. I couldn't find it before I made this one.

"A whiz"? Aw shucks! I do what I can! There are a few other good Mac advisers on the forum, and that Mac thread is a good place to go. I think it's currently not on the first page of the General Chat section, which like any other section on the forum means virtual obsolescence until it is revived. I'm just glad that it's staying cool (read: no Mac vs. Windows debates, or at least very few), unlike the iPhone thread was for a while there.
