Damn, T-Series is on a roll! Still releasing movies in the most random way possible though. Gangster looks pretty damn good, a whole lot better than Humko Deewane Kar Gaye (they came out the same year), as for Aashiqui, hum...what's up with "Team IcTv" for providing fourteen screenshots of one film and one screenshot of another?

USA T series ka style acha yeh bolte kam or action zada eros jasa neh

I like T series style , they don't talk, this is coming out that is coming out next month next week like eros kartik calling kartik, houseful, and torture us for months , then find out their replicator is out of order, six months later.
T series , bolte kam action zada, you just find out gangster is out and also aashiqui, with no fanfare no posturing, they just release it unexpected. This is the way to do it.

Thank you T series from Santa Monica, california

As for Aashiqui, well it definitely doesn't look as good as some American films from the same year, or even a French one, but it does look better than a lot of more recent catalog titles, and is not bad compared to a Chinese one. Of course it all depends on how the film was shot and envisioned.

I cant say what source was used for this transfer. My guess is on a 1st generation 35mm print.

I highly doubt they got such results from the internegative or the original negative. Unless the negatives were highly damaged, and were transferred without any restoration.

and for the most part, from my knowledge - the film looks like it does, because they seemed to have used faster/high ASA filmstock. Such filmstock is cheaper, but often look "cheaper"/grainer/flatter. The chemical composition of such filmstocks are highly sensitive to light, and expose faster than regular film, which in turn doesnt capture as many details as a slower filmstock. Use of such film is normally restricted for broad daylight action scenes.

Not to mention how horribly lit the film is.

I hope that clarifies a few doubts about the appearance of this release.

Actually the movie was quite a success, primarily due to it's very successfull soundtrack.

No, it is not the best selling Hindi soundtrack to date. There are titles that have sold several times that number. In fact I amsure that Aashiqui too sold more than 50 lakh units.

You continue to equate popularity/success with quality. We all know that this is not always the case. In fact, specially in India's context, it very rarely is.

+1. The story was average and the acting was terrible from the lead actors. The songs and music were a breath of fresh air at that time and it made what Kumar Shanu is (or was).

This has been the case always and more so in India. People mix up quality and popularity/success. Classic case is Akshay Kumar. He is popular and successful and most of his movies are big hits but if you evaluate them on a quality perspective they are all crap.

The last good Akshay movie I have seen was Sangharsh (he acted well) and Hera Pheri to some extent. I remember him saying in one of the TV interviews that he has never won any award as best actor. Well, first he needs to act and prove himself...Now, what did the Industry do? they gave him a couple of awards next year. Why ? he simply sells at the BO and a business driven industry thought that why not give a few awards to our money earner.... he sells....who cares about how he acts...

Another classic case is Himesh Reshammiya - He is a just a better than average musician but then the entire nation got crazy with his songs he got called into shows and became judge etc...he became more of a spice factor in shows than a quality judge....and then he got into acting.....that was too hard for me to digest after seeing the trailor...He became a phenomenon and a success that simply shows success and popularity has nothing to do with quality...

And last but not the least - Rakhi Sawant - what a joke... a media orchestrated fake celebrity supported by public for cheap entertainment....Keeping the word 'Quality' near 10000 miles of her will be an insult to the word. Can't blv that people watch her shows...

Yeah this happens in India. It is time people start watching quality movies and listen to quality songs to appreciate what is good and what is cheap and rubbish...But you can't blame people as the creators needs to play a major role.... they need to feed quality content to masses and change their taste...most importantly basic level of education to judge what is good and bad and what is right and wrong....

+1........exactly.......himesh and rakhi are two horrible set of people rakhi ewww i reely wonder why people watch that "kaam waali bai".........she reely looks horrible....and comming to himesh i have hated his music the day he started singing and now he has finished himself when he has started acting.......!! bt he has few good songs in 5-6 yrz ago.......!!

and yes agree with justice for X that popularity should not be confused with quality and in case of nadeem shravan i have only liked their pardes.....fab music it was....and a track in dhadkan...dil ne ye kaha hai.....i havnt evn listened to aashique........

p.s guyzz evn sanjay leela bhansali has started composing from his movie guzarish and i watched the title song on youtube and was quite good.....!!! it feels quite good that a director who has made some fab music for his movies in past has started composing...himself....!!

Just Some Trivia on the soundtrack of Aashique:
Being a music lover and discovering music of different (particularly Pakistani Music) was and eye opener for me. To most of my disgust, Nadeem Sharvan plagiarized many songs from Pakistani film music blatantly, and while the Pakistani songs were being undermined with no recognition whatsoever, Nadeem Shravan had their priase sung in high grounds.

At least three songs have been copied in Aashiqui:
1. Tu Aashiqui Hai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYPQr9fSaPM

Tune and some lyrics copied word for word. Sung by Tasawwur Khanum in the late 1970's. Brilliant Ghazal marred by Nadeem Shravan

2. Dheere dheere se [Film: Aashiqui (1990)] <TC>
Inspired by Joyce Sims' 'Come into my life' (1987).

Even after 5 years of working for itwofs, some of the lifts really jolt me. This is one of those lifts, moreso 'cos the Hindi track is a very very cherished song that brings back my college days every time I hear it. There are two interesting things to note here. The lyricist Rani Malik would have been definitely aware of the original...'Mere zindagi mein aana' vs 'Come into my life'? And second, the Aashiqui track has a 4 line mukhda that is entirely lifted while Nadeem Shravan use their imagination for the rest of the track. Really sad!

3. aane jigar jaan-e-mann [Film: Aashiqui (1990)] <TC>
Significantly inspired by the Pakistani track, 'Bas ek tere siva' composed by Robin Ghosh, for the film, 'Dooriyan' (1984)

The original was sung by Akhlaq Ahmed and Mehnaz. To give some credit to Nadeem Shravan, they have indeed remixed the track rather well. Another interesting related story here is the fact that Dooriyan was (f)re(e)made in Hindi as 'Aandhiyan' in the same year - 1990 - when Aashiqui released. This was also actress Mumtaz's so-called come back film! Even more interesting is the song, 'Duniyan mein tere siva', the song from Aandhiyan, composed by Bappi Lahiri, is supposedly based on, what else, 'Bas ek tere siva'.

Two things in this track, that came out in the same year as Aashiqui - It seems to be sung by Anuradha Paudwal (who sang the Aashiqui number too!) and Udit Narayan (and not Kumar Sanu, as this Ultraindia site mentions). Secondly, Bappi Lahiri's version of 'Bas ek tere siva' sounds to me like a more direct precursor to the Aashiqui track - the ascending progression in the 2nd line, 'Koi nahi hai mere' with specific changes 'Koi' and 'Mera' are much closer to 'Mujhko' and 'Kasam' in the Aashiqui song's line 2! Of course, Nadeem Shravan change the pattern from line 3 onwards, albeit, mildly.

Which leaves us clearly confused since we cannot arrive at a possible conclusion as to who inspired whom, since both Aandhiyan and Aashiqui released in 1990! Safer to say that both the Indian versions are inspired by the Pakistani version! Oh well, I can however add to the confusion and leave you with a note that all these 3 songs actually sound somewhat like Shankar Jaikishen's 1962 track, 'Main chali main chali' from the Shammi Kapoor starrer, Professor!! What do you think?

Enjoy!!

I never mentioned anything about who copied from whom..I just wanted to point out that Aashiqui is the best selling Hindi soundtrack and that those numbers would be hard to reach today..

But interesting point you brought up...most Indian filmmakers will just never learn

Nadeem Shravan in all probability have never produced a single original work of music, atleast not any that was successfull. I too really like the 'Dil Ne Ye Kaha Hai' track from 'Dhadkan', but guess what. Like almost all, if not actually all their hit songs, it is a direct lift from Abdul Majeed Abdullah's song 'Ahibak Leh'. Even the music of Aashiqui like the rest of their work, was mostly lifted/copied from various sources.
I suppose what else could one expect from a collaboration between them and their mentor, the biggest pirater the world has ever know, Mr. Gulshan Kumar of T-Series fame. Here is a list of just some of the work that Nadeem Shravan blatantly stole from other composers. --> http://www.itwofs.com/hindi-ns.html. At the very least, this ought to put an end to any more talk of Nadeem Shravan being good music composers, let alone in the league of such all time greats as R.D. Burman.
