Paramount Nashville (1975) (Paramount Presents #24)

Paramount will be releasing Robert Altman's Nashville (1975) through their "Presents" line on August 10th. This new release will be sourced from a 4K scan of the original elements..

Quote:
Synopsis:

Following 24 unique characters through 5 days in the country music capital, Robert Altman's Oscar winning epic presents a complexly textured portrayal (and critique) of America’s obsession with celebrity and power. Among the various stars, aspirants, hangers-on, observers, and media folk are politically ambitious country icon and his fragile star protégée, a self-absorbed rock star who woos a lonely married gospel singer, a talentless waitress painfully humiliated at her first singing gig, a runaway wife with dreams of stardom, and a campaign guru who is trying to organize a concert rally for an unseen presidential candidate. An essential of 70s cinema, this newly remastered Blu-ray, from a 4K film scan of the original elements, looks better than ever.

Special Features:

  • NEW 24 Tracks: Robert Altman’s NASHVILLE
  • Commentary by Robert Altman
  • Theatrical Trailers

Would have bought it if it were UHD, but no interest in buying another BD. The Criterion disc and the digital 4K version will do just fine.

Also have the Criterion disc, the 4K UHD digital is on sale for $4.99 on Vudu though today.

I picked up the Eureka edition as soon as the Criterion version went OOP. Right now I'm perfectly fine with that. It's a 2k restoration, has a terrific booklet, has more extras and the original poster. I recently gave it a watch and thought it looked great. I know this will be a new 4k restoration, but I can't see it being that much of an upgrade. I might end up buying the PP version down the line if it ends up being a substantial improvement. That being said, I'm happy this is being released for those that missed out on the previous editions.

Major cut on special features. Glad I was able to grab the Criterion, also glad this is available for others who missed out. I would pick up a UHD though.

Not to sound like a broken record but, No UHD = No SALE! My Criterion will do just fine.

Never got the Criterion and almost did something dangerous on eBay a few weeks ago... so this is good news for me.

I wonder what happened to the deleted scenes that were to be included for a proposed television cut that never happened?

The digital 4k is currently on sale for only $4.99. Looks like a lot of the Criterion extras will be missing. It's tough to tell if Paramount's teasing with these before an eventual physical uhd as they've done this several times.

That’s always a risk further down the line, I suppose, but their Paramount Presents AND uhd releases (like the Days of Thunder and upcoming Almost Famous) have been simultaneous. I love the film, but it doesn’t strike me as a big 4k seller on disc. I’m assuming this is it. As for double dipping, i see myself doing it for the right price. These 4k remasters from OCN almost always turn out to be superior to early Criterion discs (The Third Man being a really good example), specially when viewed on 4K oled displays.

This "no 4k, no sale" stuff amuses me... as if the blu ray can't look great and ignoring that 4k still isn't the mainstream format.

Yeah, it's not that though. Most of us who love this film already have had the Criterion Blu-ray for years and if we are getting a 4K restoration on disc, I want it on a UHD disc and not another Blu-ray disc.

I'm sure it'll look really good and it's great for those who missed the Criterion, I'm just not spending money on another Blu-ray disc w a 4K restoration of a movie I already own on Blu-ray that looks fine. If it was a UHD on the other hand....I would.

It's the Mainstream studios that amuse me more.

I'm just happy this film will be back in circulation again on blu-ray. I'm shocked Paramount didn't do 'Paramount Presents' releases for Rosemary's Baby, Don't Look, Day's of Heaven, or La Dolce Vita. Odds are Harold & Maude gets a new 'Presents' blu-ray soon I bet.

It may look "fine" but it could certainly look better. It can absolutely look better on blu-ray with a better transfer/restoration and doesn't need a 4K disc to do so.

It's amusing to me how many people care more about a format than having a film the best it could possibly look and refusing to upgrade just because.

I'm sure it can look better and like I said it's great for those who missed out, I'm just done giving my money to studios who don't want to get with the technology that allows the movie to look the best it could when I already have a Blu-ray good enough for me.

If a UHD comes out, I'll buy it.

Double dip for me. One of my all-time favorites The Criterion was 2k this is 4k. So it is an upgrade.
