Hmmm... Could be cool. But I'm not going to think too much about it though.

Yes, Gen 3 players are due in October.

the HD-3, HD-30, and HD-35 all due in the next 30days ish.

the HD35, their top end player is like $700 to get the 1080p and all the goodies that Blu-Ray has for $500.

And they say HD is cheap.. whatever.

The HD-3 is only 1080i for your $300. why would you downgrade if you have a 1080p TV.....

I agree, the next wave is due to hit prior the holidays so don't think that BB is getting out of the HD-DVD camp yet. Don't mean to burst the bubble.

In the newest issue of Sound and Vision, they had a preview for the HD-3. This is what they had to say.

"Think the format war between high-def discs is too expensive to get into? Toshiba begs to differ, making a affordable case for choosing HD-DVD with its HD-A3 player (only $300 list!.) With just one HDMI cable connected to your HDTV, you can start enjoying movies in 1080i high definition (sorry no 1080p) and checking out those cool picture-in-picture commentaries. Don't feel so more Blu do you?"

I think it's funny that they talk about how great and cheap it is, but point out how it's only 1080i.

Sad but true. Most of my friends are alwasy asking what is the difference, all they see is the 1080 part.

That is because most Displays in consumer's homes are 1080i or 720P, 1080P means nothing to most folks, I think the smartest thing BR could do right now is put out a cheaper unit that only does 1080i, about the same price as the A3, that would negate the cheaper prices of HD DVD units.

They have been on clearance and at $249 for a few days. And the same stock is still there. Yet we got about 10 S300 Blu-Rays with todays truck shipment.

It's on clearance because of the next generation. There's already "sku"s out for them but they haven't been shipped yet.

I'm a bit worried that uneducated people will get clearance items. I know I would, but No, because I know who I'm siding with

Just for clarification...

HD-A3 $299.99, 1080i
HD-A30 $399.99, 1080p
HD-A35 $499.99, 1080p, multi-channel bitstream out, analog outputs.

The Samsung 1080p BD player is now $399. The 1080p Toshiba A20 is $399. Looks like the gap is now closed.

Actually the A20 was $299 at BB for the last two weeks. Same price as the A2.

i know people would do that too but my motto is you get what you pay for if you buy a blu-ray player for $500 its worth that (sometimes even more) but if its on clearance that means no one wants it so they make it cheaper so that someone will be dumb enough to buy it thats why the more expensive it is the more value
