Thumbs up Great news for Blu-ray! Local Best Buy makes a huge BD expansion...

I recently walked inside the Best Buy store in Hollywood, CA. They now have about 50 full rows of Blu-rays divided in 6 sections throughout the store. I saw only about 20 rows of HD-DVD in 2 sections. Best buy is definitely going Blu. If this weekend they are doing buy 1 get 1 free we need to buy some BDs.

Blu is beautiful...

They are, but only on select Disney titles, starting on Sunday. You can find it on another post under the deals section. Sorry, not big into postings to know how to do the whole link thing, so you'll just have to search for it. Anyway, the advice is to wait until at least Monday to buy so that the numbers will go up against Transformers on HD DUD.

I noticed the "good" Best Buy I go to recently expanded their entire section of BLU / HD DVD to about double the previous size.

We're approaching the big revenue time for retailers, so I expect to see much more floor space given to BLU, et al.

Which Best Buy are you talking about? The one next to the Target on La Brea? If it is that one, I have been waiting for them to expand for a while now. I felt they would soon after I was in there the other day and noticed a lot of empty shelves near the Blu-rays.

Wow I wish my Bestbuy was like that. There's one whole section devoted to Blu-Ray and one to HD DVD, but they put the movies sideways instead of face out, so I suppose there's still lots there, the prices suck though.

Now it's all full with Blu-rays plus 2 additional full sections in 2 other locations around the store.

I walked into Best Buy today and saw the same thing. They were still in the process of expanding HD-DVD but they only had 4 sections devoted to HD-DVD while Blu-ray had 5 and a shelf in the middle of one of the main isles.

I went to my Best Buy tuesday and it was 2 racks HDDVD and 3 BD.

Today I went in and it was three 4 ft, sections HDDVD and 6 sections for BD. With all new sign rails and Toppers saying: "Blu-ray Disc" & "HDDVD" above their corresponding areas, just like the pictures. Everything is now Front and Faced, no more Spines showing. Makes you go "Damn there is a lot of flicks!"
It looks 10 fold better than before and makes the format look like a formidable thing now, not some fly by night operation like the one with 2-3 4ft. sections cough, HDDVD cough.

WOW that is a lot of shelves!

This is exactly like when CD's were first being adopted. Records were pushed into a smaller and smaller area. Any customer who walks in and sees all those shelves and then looks at the 3 rows of HD-DVD will know the winning format.

Best Buy will price match Fry's 9.99 deal going on now. I picked up 9 more myself.

GO BLU!!
