Default Chronicles of Narnia: The Magicians Nephew

Next Chronicles of Narnia movie to be The Magicians Nephew?

Quote:
Although The Voyage of the Dawn Treader made $400 million worldwide, it was slightly lower than Prince Caspian‘s $420 million (which in turn was lower than the $745 million made by the first movie). Despite this downward trend at the box office the Narnia franchise is still profitable, and Walden Media co-founder and president Michael Flaherty recently revealed a fourth movie was in the works, but it won’t be The Silver Chair, the fourth book.

Instead, Walden and Fox are talking about making The Magician’s Nephew which was the sixth book published and is a prequel to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. From The Christian Post (via Coming Soon):

“We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the C.S. Lewis estate now about the Magician’s Nephew being our next film,” Flaherty said. “If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years.”

“I love the Magician’s Nephew because it’s a great origins story. You get to learn so much about where the wardrobe came from, where the lamppost came from, where Narnia came from,” he said.

Here’s the synopsis of The Magicians Nephew, which is the second most popular book in the Narnia series:

When Digory and Polly are tricked by Digory’s peculiar Uncle Andrew into becoming part of an experiment, they set off on the adventure of a lifetime. What happens to the children when they touch Uncle Andrew’s magic rings is far beyond anything even the old magician could have imagined.

Hurtled into the Wood between the Worlds, the children soon find that they can enter many worlds through the mysterious pools there. In one world they encounter the evil Queen Jadis, who wreaks havoc in the streets of London when she is accidentally brought back with them. When they finally manage to pull her out of London, unintentionally taking along Uncle Andrew and a coachman with his horse, they find themselves in what will come to be known as the land of Narnia.

Going in this direction with the Narnia franchise will require an entirely new cast, with the exception of Aslan and the White Witch. Are Narnia fans happy in seeing The Magicians Nephew next, or would you rather see The Silver Chair?

What ever happened to The Silver Chair, or whatever it's called? I thought was the fourth.

It is but Fox/Walden are making the movies out of order for these 2 and I gusses they decided on Magicians Nephew as the next one.

I guess the studio wants to make the more popular book into a movie over keeping to the order of release.

The Magician's Nephew is one of my favourite novels, so I'll keep an eye on this one. Of the Narnia films currently out, I've only seen The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (although I can't remember if I saw it in its entirety).

Wow even if these aren't blockbusters, I guess they may actually all come out, will have to get Voyage of the Dawn Treader now.

Glad it's getting a fourth, a little bummed out its not The Silver Chair though. I'd rather they were made in order. But hey, at least they're being made at all.

Yeah really happy we are getting another one and it gives me hope we can actually get all 7 books made into movies.

while this is a good book, and technically can be made whenever since its a prequel, i would have rather they stayed in order.

Hope it's not that they got panicky after Dawn Treader (ahembaddecemberslot), and want to "wrap up" the series with Nephew's full-circle closure.
Darn, and I was all ready to see Will Poulter again as the "good" Eustace, this time.

There was supposed to be Chair and Nephew before they got to Horse and His Boy--just so Walden could use the "neato" gimmick of getting the adult Susan and Lucy actors back to cameo as their adult selves--but looks like the long Treader delays have thrown off the schedules.

Well, that's just it--None of the original characters are in the story, which is very convenient for the studio at this point.
[Show spoiler](Except for Jim Broadbent's Professor, of course, but they don't have to worry about him getting too old for the part.)

Yeah seems they will stick to Christmas for the openings then and not Summer like the first 2.

I'm half shocked. I really didn't think the business on the second or third films would have warranted another trip to Narnia.
I still wish that they'd started the series off with a director that had as much love for the material as Peter Jackson had for LOTR. While LTWTW was a decent film, it felt missing that spark of passion.

Hopefully this one goes well. Liked the first movie, I wasn't a huge fan of the second movie or dawn treader (book or movie) but this book I was very into.

We have been contacted by someone close to the production who claims that Walden Media has pulled out of making any further Narnia movies.

We are trying to confirm this news as quickly as possible. And should this indeed be the case, we have no idea what will become of the series from this point on.

UPDATE: There are a number of conflicting stories about what’s going on. We’re hearing different things from different people, so until things start to settle down we really don’t know anything for sure. What we can say for sure is that the future of the franchise at present is rather murky. Negotiations may or may not be ongoing, or may have ground to a halt for a while. We’re going to just have to wait and see what shakes out.

UPDATE 2: I did have a chance to speak with officials from Walden Media today. Walden stated emphatically that they are still pursing another Narnia film and that they are continuing discussions with the C.S. Lewis Estate to make that a reality. At the present time nothing has been confirmed. But there has not yet been a final yes, or a final no. If Walden does another Narnia film, it will almost certainly be The Magician’s Nephew.

The previous was taken from NarniaWeb, Seems like the future is still up in the air.

Maybe if they were smart, they wouldn't spend 150-200 million dollars per film. Magicians Nephew. 60-80 million dollar budget. Director passionate about the material.

That's all it takes. Super 8 and District 9 are exactly what people need to aspire towards. Fantastic films with cheap budgets. Both of them look just as great, effects wise, as most of the other summer blockbusters. In fact, they're better films than most of the summer blockbusters lately.

Don't they pretty much have to make these in chronological order, or risk having actors age too much between shoots? Eustace is in The Silver Chair, and if they delay that film, won't the actor age too much when/if they end up making the film? I agree that The Magician's Nephew is a better story, but don't know if it would make the better film.

Are there any duplicative characters in The Horse and His Boy? I can't remember.

Whatever they do they had better get this franchise back on track. Dawn Treader was NOT good at all. It didnt feel like a Narnia film - more like a video game mixed with Pirates of the Carribean or something. Yuk.

If not, then this remains a two-film franchise for us. Heres hoping.

to me it was geared towards a 3-D experience. There's a few movies that just want to do a 3-D experience and skip on a good story.
