Default TDK declares Blu-ray the HD winner

Here's a very interesting interview with a TDK executive - http://www.tech.co.uk/home-entertain...-the-hd-winner

Did a search and nothing came up on this so hope it isn't a double thread.

"Blu-ray will win the format war and be accepted as the only next-generation format to provide the best audio and video quality. In other news, the sun will rise tomorrow morning and set later that evening. This pattern is expected to repeat."

The article asks what is the likelyhood of both formats failing like DVD-Audio and SACD did. I dunno, what is the likelyhood that both formats suck? Not likely at all, my friends. Not likely at all!

I hope other makers of consumer writable discs follow their lead. Boy, it must really affect morale to work at Toshiba right now.

TDK judged the Blu-ray Disc recordable and rewriteable product concepts to be the superior format in terms of capacity, durability and performance.

This article may be more telling:

http://www.tech.co.uk/home-entertain...leid=454700842

Quote:
"At IFA, 14 brands introduced BD CE players which were Philips, Sharp, Sony, Denon, Onkyo, JVC, Panasonic, Samsung, Funai, Pioneer, Hitachi, LG, Loewe, Daewoo, PS3. HD DVD has just one: Toshiba," said Simonis.

"We believe content is what will drive adoption of an HD format. And with seven of the eight major studios now releasing blu-ray titles in earnest, Blu-ray's content advantage is apparent. Blu-ray has already surpassed HD-DVD in terms of the number of titles available for purchase and the gap is continuing to expand as five studios are publishing content exclusively on Blu-ray.

Do some counting and you'll see why.... This article is dated Oct. 5th, 2007 so it is after Paramount/Dreamworks announcement. Is someone leaving the HDDVD camp?

Frank may have made a slip up!

Onkyo is on HD-DVD side. Correct me if I am wrong.

Onkyo has announced an HD-DVD player, however I believe it uses a toshiba drive.
