Thumbs up Analyst Declares Blu-Ray the Winner

Analyst Declares Blu-Ray the Winner

By Jay Wrolstad January 12, 2006 1:20PM

"It's time to put a stake in the ground regarding the future high-definition DVD format: Blu-Ray has won," Semico Research analyst Adrienne Downey wrote. "Walking around CES, it was obvious that much of the enthusiasm and momentum is on the Blu-Ray side."

My favorite line of the article is this:

Quote:
"The support for HD DVD is minimal, in comparison."
It's sad that Toshiba can't admit defeat. Exactly how much writing on the wall is needed?

You don't know her from a can of paint.

She could have cataracts for all you know.

Bill Hunt of the Digital Bits said pretty much the same thing. The big deal at CES was Blu-ray. From your wording it's easy to see yet again that you are strongly pro-HD DVD. If it's not your intention to troll then why do you post here? Start an HD DVD forum and you can trash talk BD all you want. It's not welcome here, post after post. I'm not saying BD is perfect, and we all know that, but to keep coming here and posting negative things about BD is tiresome.

I believe many of us know how to deal with the internet... Where does your trust come from?

No ...I'm Pro no BS. I don't know this lady from Adam yet I'm supposed to give her opinion weight? Bill Hunt has far more credibility than she does yet even he gives very little substantive information about the format. Then again he was editorializing more so than simply presenting facts.

I've posted nothing about BD that was blatantly false. I'm not trying to mislead here but simply engage in meaningful discussion. I wouldn't personally promote an unknown analyst saying good things about HD DVD. Perhaps I'm a mistrusting person but marketing is tantamount to lying in some ways.

True it's a personal issue...however I am merely stating the irony in taking the opinion of someone you didn't know the day before and highlighting that as something of substance.

The analyst clearly said she was peeved about the mudslinging coming from the HD DVD booth. I don't agree with mudslinging but I wouldn't let that be a factor in how I viewed the prospects of a platform. It sounded like she jumped up into her bully pulpit.

Blu-ray is the Best format in everyway. It has more capacity, has higher definition, better resistance to scratches and more Support from the entire industry. Yes it will POSSIBLY, cost more at launch, and I say possibly because every company hasnt given all their models or prices yet and the PS3 which will play Blu-ray hasnt been priced either. And even if it is more expensive I will pay for it because I want the best, and Blu-ray is it. Whether this person is well known or has cataracts or not, She still knows the best when she see's it, cause she's right. The Future is Blu.

Hmm are you from Toshiba or NEC. I'm the classic cynic, but yet I do believe that Pioneer, Philips, Sony, Panasonic... are in full support (N.B. it could be wrong as I got it off the internet). This person presented some research - not that this is new, a number of pundits from various web sites have declared Blu Ray the winner for some time.

If you have any interesting articles stating HD-DVD is the winner please post them. We can then make up our own minds if they are a "can of paint". As I know you can use the internet I don't need to give you the HD DVD org URL (I know there are a number of articles along those lines) - guess what many of us have a look there and a number of other Pro HD-DVD web sites as well, I guess with the amount of research and industry knowledge, that gives the opinions of a number of posters here so much credibility.

As for the ability to use the internet - well I assume you are having a go at all the posters above your post, that they don't know how to use the internet in an intelligent way – please have a look at much of what n2blu has posted. He has found and posted some pretty amazing stuff from obscure resources and what happens sometime down the track an official PRESS release stating what we already knew (N.B. I don't trust the press either).

As for Trafficproducer - well they are to new for me to make an informed comment, but they are off to a great start. Keep up the good work Trafficproducer, and thanks for the post.

As for the inference that we are all BD groupies or whatever - just start a thread about DRM etc - second thoughts don't bother it's been done many times before, with everyone agreeing with what is being proposed - NOT!

I'm glad you around though - at least we can some entertainment whilst impatiently waiting for the next number of months to roll by - as long as it stays civil and I mean that - I'm not being sarcastic as I normally am.

Hey, hmurchison. I think we all know the purpose of your signature.

It's implying that there's a problem with competing technologies. Uh, no. That's how the markets should work. Boo hoo!

One format will win out sooner or later.

Blu-Ray wins regardless if you like the articles or not.

Frankly , I don't see how Blu Ray can possibly lose.
They seem to have all there ducks in a row as far as the vast majority of harware/software support.

I refuse to buy a crappy Toshiba player to watch 1 or two Universal movies on, when I can buy a BD player and watch 99% of the movies I want to purchase....and wait for Universal to come running....and this is assuming Universal will not already be on board with BD at launch.

In order for a new format to take off, we need one format in order to not confuse the general public imo.
