Default Monopoly, Action Man and Hungry, Hungry Hippos Films Planned

Quote:
Three more Hasbro properties are headed to the big screen as The LA Times reports that Emmett/Furla Films has signed a deal that will give them the film rights to Action Man, Hungry, Hungry Hippos and the long-gestating Monopoly.

Monopoly, which already has a screenplay by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, hopes to shoot sometime next year with Ridley Scott, who was formerly attached as a director, producing.

Hungry, Hungry Hippos is planning to go the animated route while plans for Action Man remain unspecified.

The family-friendly nature of all three properties will expand the focus of Emmett/Furla's output which, recently, has been on action thrillers like End of Watch and upcoming projects like Motor City and The Tomb.

They've been trying to do a Monopoly ever since Clue was first announced, but Hasbro didn't have Transformers on the brain back then.

Even so, I was recently surveyed about which pop/cartoon/TV characters I remembered, and among others, was asked how much marketable pop-culture sentimentality I had for Rich Uncle Pennybags.
I am of a naturally suspicious nature.

How the holy hell could they possibly make a film about Monopoly or HHH? Action Man I understand - kid friendly gun fights and all that jazz - but those must be two of the least cinematic ideas I've ever heard of...

...then again, I did think that about The Social Network when it was announced. Hell, they even have a special feature on the release entitled "How Did They Make a Film About Facebook?" so the same must have gone through their heads, too.

The 80's idea for Monopoly was going to be more of an It's a Mad^4 World style spending free-for-all, but when the post-TF Hasbro revived it, they pictured the main character suddenly finding himself in an alternate real-life Monopoly World.
And likely even that idea has fallen by the wayside, so.....

(As for HHHippos, apart from kiddy-CGI hybrid, I wouldn't hazard a guess.)

Well, that latter idea might work, I suppose; it's certainly the best idea that they could have come up with for this, and isn't the most surreal thing they could have gone with.

Yep, I'm stumped about HHH too.

Well, it did make over $300 million, but over $200 of that is from overseas.
