Default Question regarding the Pinoeer PDP5070

Had a question re: Pioneer PDP 5070

My Set Up

Pioneer PDP5070
HD Cable
Samsung Blu-Ray 1400
Pioneer Rec. VSX-82TXS
XBOX 360
PS3

now I know this tv will "accept" 1080i, but its 720, when I am playing a Blu-Ray disc, will it be showing the movie in 1080i or does it down scale the movie to 720P.

I was under the impression that I was watching movies in 1080i, however today two different guys at best buy told me that just becuase the tv will "Accept" 1080i, doesn't mean it displaying 1080i and that it was downscaling it to 720 P. They also said I should set the Blu-Ray players to 720p so the display will run smoother. Is all of this true?
If this tv is only displaying 720p, I want to get a tv that is true 1080P.

Thanks for any info and sorry if these are dumb questions.

would it be worth selling and getting another plasma that is 1080P? Say a Panasonic or just stick with the Pioneer 720P ?

what about the Pioneer PDP 5010-FD, is that worth the money over the Panasonic TH-50PZ700U ?

thanks

Go out and compare the two at your best buy. They have both on display, usually really close to each other. I would say go 1080p, but in the end it matters if you can see a difference between the two.
