All this talk af A2's, but Sony could be on the verge of selling millions of PS3's this coming week. |

Does anyone else think it'd be better to drop standalone blu ray players price and mass advertise them?
I doubt "millions" will be sold in a week. The PS3, despite being new, still sells the worst out of all 3 consoles, with only hundreds of thousands in a MONTH. |

I think in the end you would sell more discs that way to get the studios support but they do have to get the PS3 out there too.

It time we realised these desperate, knee jerk, moves from HD-DVD are to counter much bigger, much more effective, long term plans from the BDA and Blu-ray supporting companies.
50k A2 sales, hell make it 100k, they're going to be a blip on the radar compared to the 40GB PS3, not to mention the new 1.1 Panasonic, and likely cheaper 1.0 players. |

It doesn't mean sell million IN A WEEK, but that the campaign launched THIS WEEK could help sell millions over an unspecified period of time. |

Yeah the 40Gb version has been in Australia for a few weeks now, and sales have gone through the roof! Although here, we are talking about a $300 price cut from $999 to $699. Still too much given that the Australian dollar is buying over 92 UC cents now, but, nevertheless, the ps3 is REALLY picking up pace here.

I still don't think the American consumer is as uninformed or as desperate for dirt-cheap HD as the derogatory "J6P" moniker assumes.
The choice is apparently clear -- $199 for a HD DVD player (that's not even full HD, but let's not go there, even), or $399 for a PS3. The HD DVD will play, what, one quarter of the recent big Hollywood hits. The PS3 will play the remaining three quarters. It'll also be the technologically most advanced game console and home entertainment center, a device that will enable you to have all of your bases covered for at least half a decade, if not longer. This is why I'm certain the new PS3 will by itself be able to nullify the onslaught of cheapo HD DVD players. And I'm pretty certain we'll be seeing the BDA respond to them on the standalone side too, with new models by Funai and suchlike, and a price reduction of the Profile 1.0 models. |

Just a quick thought,
Given that the PS3 posesses a powerful processor, powerful graphics, HDD, USB, Bluetooth, Networking and runs on Linux (so I believe)... is this possibly why MS is so worried. I mean... how long could it be that shortly you could replace a PC with one... sort of Sony's trojan horse under the TV to displace Microsoft. Surely if a Game will run on it, then so could word processing, spreadsheets etc... How about it Sony... Sony Office for PS3. I mean it couldn't run worse than anything Microfoft comes up with. A few years down the line (souped up even further) it could be the Sony Mediastation doing everything. |

Isn't it funny how the online world works.
HD-DVD's 50k/100k firesale of A2's generates hysteria on niche HD forums, while this MASSIVE, mainstream, ad campaign, that will shift millions of Blu-ray capable PS3's this Q4, almost slips by in a whimper. ![]() |

Indeed, but when the PC was launched with simple word processing could we imagine then what we are doing now with a PC. It's the architecture and market penetration I'm thinking of. If you went into the office, you wouldn't be booting up a PS3, it would be something more sober looking... maybe called a Workstation 4 optimized for that environment.
