Lightbulb A Movie idea of Mine: ToonTalker

You can move this thread to somewhere else if you want, but here's a movie idea of mine:

Imagine the quest plot of Jim Henson’s 1982 fantasy puppet movie and cult classic The Dark Crystal (in which the main character quests his or her way through some world to save said world from death and destruction by healing some giant crystallized thingy using some crystallized shard thingy) combined with a whole lotta other inspirations and influences (characters and all) straight out of Genndy Tartakovsky’s cartoon animation work (most notably Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory or even Sym-Bionic Titan), elements of the visual wonders of stuff like The Wizard of Oz, James Cameron’s Avatar and the 2013 movie Gravity, and even the 1996 Michael Jordan/Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes vehicle Space Jam's concept of having a live human actor visit, move around and interact within a mostly 2d animated cartoon world inhabited by mostly 2d animated cartoon characters/creatures (and also a visual trick of having the first quarter or first half-hour or so (up until the scene where the main human character travels to the cartoon world for the first time) being shown in a flat 1.85:1 screen aspect ratio before opening up the screen to a CinemaScope widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 for the rest of the movie (when said live human wakes up or arrives in the cartoon world or something like that) though the intended visual effect might be lost somewhat for home video release by having the opening 1.85:1 ratio window-boxed into the 2.40:1 frame the movie will eventually expand to--similar to Disney's Brother Bear's aspect ratio change, right?)—as well as Space Jam's merging of three distinct worlds (live action movie-making, 2d traditional (and largely) hand drawn cartoon animation (albeit in the Genndy Tartakovsky cartoon style of his work on Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack) and modern digital CGI special/visual effects technology, and you will have something a bit like 'ToonTalker’, an epic fantasy adventure which will also be a heartfelt tribute to the Russian-born Cult Animator behind Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, Genndy Tartakovsky, as well as his 2d animation work, in ways best suited to his talent and genius.

In ToonTalker, Brandon Robertson, a real human teenage boy from the ‘real world’ around us who has the ability to talk to or communicate with cartoon characters from any visual screen, travels to an animated cartoon fantasy world where dinosaurs and samurai clans still exist (in Brandon's unchanged real flesh-and-blood human form) where he has epic adventures there—and where he must save the real and cartoon worlds from an evil shape shifting demon wizard (Khan Morgo/Aku) and his evil cartoon human sidekick (Mordred/Mandark) by finding and returning to its place a lost Emerald Shard of a once-shattered Great Crystal Stone that reposes in The Castle of Knowledge and Wisdom.

Sorry that this opening post is too long, and you don't have read all of it if you want, what do you think of all that?

Write the script, and then I'll tell you.

Not quite the brightest idea to be posting ideas online.

Actually, Hollywood is scared to death of taking something off the Internet from fans. They end up fighting off lawsuits for almost every movie that goes into production.

Hollywood writers are literally instructed to avoid online forums for fear an idea gets stolen from a fan suggestion and the studio ends up getting sued. In the early days of the Internet, J. Michael Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5) had to get studio permission to even post on one fan board.

Sounds like a mashup of The Pagemaster and Cool World. The changing aspect ratio makes me think of Brainstorm.

Also sounds like a movie which could have only been made about 20-30 years ago.

Regardless, you're not going to get anywhere with this if you don't have a screenplay or spec script to shop around.

Maybe I will write a screenplay or spec script for my ToonTalker idea, but I will not post it on the internet, OK?

I know when a writer or director gets something in the mail. Whether it be a pitch or a script. They're instructed to put it in the shredder and or trash. Because as soon as they look at it looking at trouble. On this one podcast I listen they've talked about this.

Or better yet, just rent The Secret of the Kells, and get all those "Epic-fantasy Samurai Jack movie!" urges out of your system without the effort.

Thanks for the recommendation! That way, I might watch Secret of Kells (which is an Oscar-nominated animated movie from 2009) so I can "get all those 'epic fantasy Samurai Jack movie" urges that I had out of MY system without the effort", just like you've said, and put all that, along with any number of sources of inspiration and/or influence on paper when writing my spec script or screenplay for my ToonTalker idea.

Also, I will keep pruning and tweaking my idea for ToonTalker until I hit something I'm proud of, even as a fresh, new, and original off-shoot of Genndy Tartakovsky's cartoon works or Pagemaster or whatever.

And similar to what George Lucas had done when planning out his Star Wars franchise in the '70s, I will take bits, pieces, layers and elements from any number of different sources (like Genndy Tartakovsky's cartoon work such as Samurai Jack, etc.) and mesh them together to create my own fresh, new and original mythology.

Just saying!

I have 11 original feature length scripts that I've done. Plus like 15 other ideas that I have for stuff. Whether they be feature or short film.

Is TOAST going to be feature length or a short?
