"We don't have competition," says Xbox president
Microsoft's Robbie Bach has dismissed Sony's PlayStation Network, saying he doesn't believe the console rival offers an online gaming service comparable to Xbox Live. The company is currently celebrating five years of Xbox Live, with over 8 million users signed up to the service. "It's fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don't have competition," said Bach, speaking to the LA Times. "Sony has done some things online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big advantage and we're going to keep pressing that advantage," he added. As well as Arcade titles, demos and TV and movie downloads, Microsoft announced last week that it will begin offering original Xbox games via Live, including hit titles Halo, Fable and Crimson Skies. "We have a very strong, very powerful computer network that provides the backbone for our service," continued Bach. "Perhaps the most important thing we have is over 8 million passionate members who create and define what Xbox Live is. It's a tough thing to create, and we're going to continue to nurture it." http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30756 i guess the Nintendo Wii does not have an ONLINE service also... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

truth be told, Sony does need to step up its online experience,
Lets hope "home" is all they are saying it is and more. |

Well, I don't own a 360 and I don't ever plan to, but it terms of online gaming the "competition" is so weak it might as well be nonexistent. I love my Wii and PS3, but I find both severely lacking in solid online content and infrastructure. However, its free, so I don't care that much. I'm still not sold on Home. There is a lot of potential there. We'll see what happens.
To your point, though, MS is arrogant. |

Yeah unless your friends happen to be 360 users who also happen to work in Microsoft's Gaming division, I think this would be all over the Interwebs.

Both Sony and Microsoft CEO's has been very arrogant in their statements but if you notice its always the ANTI-SONY people point out SONY but not Microsoft, when Microsoft is just as bad.... ![]() |

You'd think Microsoft could afford to be less arrogant and more creative, instead of ripping off every successful product by other companies, or buying them out. True the Live has been out longer than PSN, but that is the only thing they have. Windows is a rip off of Mac OS, Word originally ripped of Word Perfect, DOS wasn't even theirs when they sold it to IBM, Zune...... pulease, Microsoft is one of the biggest, evilest companies I know of. They keep trying to force their standards on everyone, disabling the formats and standards of others, pretending and acting like they own the world....
I am a Mac fanatic... Sony is neutral to me, their PlayStation systems rock, and I love their TVs and such, but I am no fanboy. But I hate Micro$oft with a passion! |

Thanks for the info Cyorg, I have heard of Coolroom but wasn't aware that MS planned on bringing it to the 360. |

Ami was the first WYSIWYG WP for Windows and it came out a year before MS Word. It was better than Word but MS FUD'ed it. It became Lotus Word Pro. To be fair to MS, Apple didn't invent windowing, mice or any of their user interface. Xerox did. Last edited by eat_me_cool; 11-21-2007 at 02:09 PM. |

I know which I find better value, and I know which company I would trust to provide and improve a service without trying to rip me off in the process. |

Back in the days I would totally agree. Even to this day xbox live is ahead of playstaion network but the gap is closing. However I would still go with xbox live even to this day but what stopped me, is this.
1. Back in the days I play xbox live as my only online network, now I play pc games and xbox live is like a trolley versus a tank against the pc online gaming. There is a lot of fuss out there about xbox live. It did introduce me to the online world. But whatever xbox live does, pc does it a trillion times better and for free. Also xbox live has no upgraded much at all. I still to this day struggle to get into a few online rooms, get lag against overseas players. 2. I had a 360 and it is by far the worst console I have ever owned, though I haven’t owned many and imo and this opinion is not bias as I am a gamer and I preferred the xbox over the ps2, but the 360 should be noted as one of the worst consoles made. It is terribly made that when I first turned my ps3 on I thought I didn’t hook it up right. Not a single sound. I totally forgot what consoles were really about. The 360's terrible design, noise and performance is shocking. 3. Once you experience pc gaming you start to realise what a rip job xbox live is. Charging people for a totally overrated feature is like going to the arcades and paying to play Daytona 1. |

And this is a European website. At any rate, I don't understand how XBox fanboys can act like Sony is some evil corporate monster and Microsoft is not. BTW shouldn't this be in the PS3 section of the forum? |

It's not that either method isn't valid, but there are benefits to the subscription model. Frankly I believe MS could very well afford to cut Live to $29.99 a year without taking much of a hit at all, especially with all the new in-game advertising. To give you an idea, a Battlefield 2142 server ususally goes for somewhere between $3-4 a month per slot (typically 32-64 slots) Last edited by WickyWoo; 11-21-2007 at 11:11 PM. |
