The Odd Couple Blu-ray

The Odd Couple Blu-ray review

Quote:
The Odd Couple is a 1968 American comedy film written by Neil Simon, based on his play The Odd Couple, directed by Gene Saks, and starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. It is the story of two divorced men – Felix Ungar, the neurotic neat-freak, and Oscar Madison, the fun-loving slob – who decide to live together, even though their personalities clash.

The film was highly successful with critics and audiences, grossing over $44.5 million, making it the fourth highest-grossing picture of 1968. The success of the film was the basis for 114 episodes of the ABC television sitcom of the same name, starring Tony Randall as Felix and Jack Klugman as Oscar.

Nice to see this classic on BD before the awful sequel!

WB seems to be doing a great job with Paramount's library. Hope to see even more catalog titles coming down the line!

WB is merely the distributor. Paramount is still the one that decided to release it, and has done all the mastering for it.

This is pretty cool news. No, make that extremely cool.

Throw in some news about The Out of Towners and I'll be delirious.

(it would be nice if MGM did something with The Fortune Cookie too)

I wouldn't be surprised to see this in a double feature pack with Grumpy Old Men down the road, as Warner has been pairing up their catalog releases with Paramounts, and that pairing seems to make the most sense.

I'm not hating the cover art either.

(and no, I don't care that the name billing doesn't match their placement in the photo)

It's not supposed to--That's how they keep it equal:
("Look, it's 'MATTHAU & Lemmon'!" "I hate to disagree, but it's 'LEMMON & Matthau'!")

For me, this is only a problem when the names are "connected" to the photographs by the design of the art. Since the title stands between the names and the photos, there's a separation.

If you thought Grumpy Old Men was funny, just wait for this!!

The Odd Couple is a gazillion times funnier IMHO!

It's a true classic, and I am thrilled it's finally coming to Blu-ray.

Day one purchase!

...So you'll probably think Odd Couple II was hysterical.

As for me, show me anything by Billy Wilder, IAL Diamond, and Lemmon/Matthau.
(Except for Buddy Buddy, of course.)

Never seen this before but I've been meaning to watch it for a couple years--figured that I'd wait for the eventual blu release to get it though. Anyone know when it'll be available for pre-order?

Finally. Those two together was gold! While the sequel is nowhere near the original I would still like to see it on Blu too because I still enjoyed it.
