Default No Time To Die (2021) NON-SPOILER thread

This is an attempt to help our forum members who haven't seen this film yet to avoid spoilers. If you want to avoid spoilers, DO NOT go into the official thread.

Anyone posting about the film here MUST spoiler tag ANYTHING that even hints at the film's several twists.

If you CANNOT be bothered or don't know how to use spoilers, please go to the other thread. Thank you.

I'll kick things off: It's good.

IMO, it's not a patch on CASINO ROYALE. I'd say I like it better than SKYFALL but most will place it below that. It's better than QOS or SPECTRE but it does manage to make those films more interesting in hindsight.

The central plot is weak and Safin is underdeveloped and underused but that doesn't cripple the movie because Bond's emotional journey is really the meat of the film.

I found the action scenes a bit disappointing but that was partly because they've been heavily-spoiled in the trailers, which used all the "money shots", if you will.

Ana De Armas is a standout in the cast but it's really Craig's film. He's both more relaxed and invested in the role. Bond is quite different here than in Spectre - surprisingly chatty, humorous and emotionally available. In some ways, this is quietly the biggest advance in the film and might forever change the way he's written.

NTTD provides a satisfying conclusion to Craig's tenure, doing as good a job as it could in pulling together the threads of a run which was clearly begun with no idea where it was heading. For comparison, it does a better job of this than RISE OF SKYWALKER did for its respective trilogy and, as I said, it does manage to make the previous four films more interesting in hindsight.

In order to fully enjoy NTTD, you should ideally watch all of Craig's film but certainly CASINO ROYALE and SPECTRE. I would also recommend watching ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE.

???

Wouldn't it make sense to make this a SPOILER thread so that people can discuss things freely without tagging everything?

That's how it usually works.

Thank you for your review. I have not seen the film.

I suspected a change-for-the-worse in "Bond personality" when NTTD direction (Cary Joji Fukanaga) and writing (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) changed.

Humor is okay, but I prefer Bond not to be "chatty" and "emotionally available".

I will see the film, but affording the possibility of Spectre (2015) being my last Bond collectible.

Cheers.

Uh, why not do a SPOILER thread, that could direct spoilers away from the existing thread?

Easier said than done. Go to the thread and read a few pages of it and you'll see.

Look, I've seen the movie. I was just trying to be considerate of other users. At least this thread might alert them not to go there. But if you want to be down on it, go ahead.

Uhm, I've been on that thread pretty consistently for the past while, more frequently than you have, and if you actually go back and scan it you'll see that neoz, who is a moderator, has gone in and added spoiler tags to some of the posts, so it's clearly not "easier said than done".

So now you have two threads where spoilers are supposed to be tagged, when it would be much better to have a thread where Spoilers can be discussed that would draw those people who want to discuss things openly away from the main one. As I said, that's how things are typically done around here.

Is that expected to be around the same time the rest of the world gets it also? That would be pretty late.

I would say so. I mean, U.K. was the first to get it.
