Quite right, however allow me to elaborate. The comments made by Sony's CEO were out of context, it is discussed on this forum and in some other articles, some include the full transcript.

As far as sales figures they might have done that well however they are still well behind blu-ray player sales. I wont even go into the economic issues of selling a player that cheap. If those cheap players do not materialize any significant HD DVD sales then what good are those numbers? Most of the people who bought them probably had no idea what HD DVD is about. They also forgot to mention that during black friday and the following weekend Blu-ray outsold HD-DVD accounting for more than 70% of High-def sales.

In other words it is all old news and most is not important

Great site. The article was from Nov. 9 and 2 people commented on it since.
Who the hell is Paul Smith? Check that, I don't care.
I'll bet that if the New England Patriots were playing the St. Louis Rams and a reporter asked Bill Bellichick (N.E.'s head coach) about it he'd say something along the lines of; the St Louis Rams are a good team and it's going to be a tough contest.

If you have a look on Amazon, at the moment the HD DVD discs are out selling Blu-ray quite easily. With the top ten HD DVDs having twice the salesrank of the top ten Blu-ray discs.
errr..., aren't sales rank number smaller better ?

You are absolutely right. It means blu-ray is outselling hd dvd by 2 to 1, as usual.
At one time I gave amazon statistics way too much credit. Last week hd dvd was seriously outselling blu-ray due to their 50% off Universal titles, but when the final #'s came out blu-ray had outsold hd dvd by a margin rarely seen.
