List of Harry Potter Versions

There are several threads about the Harry Potter movies. Every so often, people bump them to ask the same questions, over and over again. Here's a list that should serve as a basic FAQ guide.

The Wizard's Collection and the Hogwarts Collection include every disc-based documentary/featurette/extra except for "The Hidden Secrets of Harry Potter" from the single-disc release of Order of the Phoenix. "The Hidden Secrets of Harry Potter" is a tedious TV program that tries to guess what will happen in future books/movies. This became useless after the final books and movies were released.

Only the first two movies have Extended Versions.

The video encodes should be the same across all releases.

The first five movies first arrived on BD with PCM audio tracks. Movie 6, 7, and 8 have DTS-HD MA audio tracks. For the Ultimate Editions, Wizard's Collection, and Hogwarts Collection, all of the movies have DTS-HD MA audio tracks.

Considering the insane OOP prices on everything but the original releases and the basic collection set, would any new fan even consider anything else?

The only missing ones I see are the Black Friday 2010 (2010 in general) Walmart releases. They were the same as the target editions, but they had the regular cover art. So whereas newer editions will say VUDU, these versions would say digital copy. Not a huge change, but they are one nonetheless. I have them for Sorcerer's Stone and CoS

I could also argue just a little about including a couple of the International HP and Philosophers Stone selections since they do have marginal differences -- the Canadian Ultimate Edition is nice because it is Region A and without the US changes (I hate being considered stupid by people selling me stuff).

I'm trying to keep the list US/Canada-centric since most people buy the American versions anyway. I just got tired of people asking in every thread, "Do all of the movies have extended versions? Are all the extras included? Does this have a slipcover or Digital Copy?"

It sounds like the Hogwarts Collection is the easiest bet, the Wizard version has all of the drawers and stuff, so it's probably only for hardcore fans.

Thanks for this! Very helpful. I have the standard editions of 1-6, the Best Buy exclusive (bonus disc & alternate art) of 7.1, and both the Target exclusive (bonus disc & art I believe) and WBshop art book exclusive limited edition of 7.2.

I'll upgrade to the Hogwarts collection, which is freakin perfect, when it drops below $100.

They're Out of Print now. Just get the Hogwarts Collection (same discs).
