Question Is it really worthy?

Hello to everyone!!!!!!!! I’ve been reading for months now and I’m getting more frustrated per day about Blu-ray. I own a HD-DVD player just because I’m a freak about HD, I didn’t want to wait, but I want to make clear that there is no way HD-DVD will win this battle. I truly believe Blu-ray it is going to win… anyway I’m starting this thread because I have one question. I’ve been waiting to buy a decent Blu-ray player for a long time, I was going to buy the Samsung as soon as it was out, but after reading a lot on the net and specially on the forum, I decided to wait for the pioneer or the Panasonic. Anyway, as I said before I’m getting frustrated because more bad news are coming and it looks like the Panasonic, pioneer and sony are getting delayed again…. so I’ve been thinking…. If you are not thinking of upgrading (HDMI 1.3) and if these players are getting delayed (with very high prices), shouldn’t be wise to buy the Samsung for 600???
Will the Pioneer, Panasonic or Sony give you a better picture quality? Will it give you better sound (because we know none of the G1 players will decode true HD sound)? So if the answer is no to both questions, why should I spend 1500 or 1200 on a player that will give me the same picture and sound quality as a player of 600? Just because of the looks?
I know the Samsung is not the best player ever (actually a pretty bad one), but is it really worthy to spend double the money on a player that will do exactly the same as a more expensive one?

Thanks to everyone for your comments and your help.

GO BLU-RAY!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: sorry about my English!!!!!!!

Word is that at least the Panasonic will be firmware upgradeable to include TrueHD. Also the PS3 will have HDMI 1.3 FWIW.

Quite frankly, that Samsung is starting to look a lot more tempting to several of us. With it's new firmware upgrade it's supposed to have much better PQ. There are some comments at this forum saying such. Do a search for kevinca1's posts for more info.

And welcome to the forum!

No matter what you may have heard.... THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SAMSUNG PLAYER!!!! It plays BD's DVD's and CD's flawlessly... With the exception of the NR chip(which should be fixed soon) I would think the PQ will be the same as the other players. The only flaw is the lack of advanced audio support. The panasonic says they will have a firmware fix for it and the PS3 is supposed to have them.... I was in the same boat as you. The reason I bought the Samsung is that none of the upcomming players had all the options I wanted... If you can get it for a good price and you dont care about the new audio, than I dont think you could go wrong with it....

The only issue I have with the samsung player (and it might not be the player) But I think it is, is the Studder/Frame Drop during DTS selected tracks.

It does it on lions gate movies and also on the paramount flicks.

Should this get corrected in the firmware update, i'd give the samsung a solid reccomend.

Depends on how much money you have. If you have a lot and don't mind it, go for it. You could be enjoying BD now rather than later.

But if you don't want to spend money on upgrading again once the Panasonic or Pioneer is out, or if you want to spend money on a player once every five years, you should wait it out. Take into consideration the second-hand market for your country, or even after-sales support.

Your BD player ultimately should be something you enjoy instead of something you worry about.
