Thumbs down Ellen's 12 Days of Givaways Day 11: HDDVD n PS3

So i was watching Ellen today and she starts her 11th day of givaways by opening the 1st box and its an HD DVD player with 4 HDDVD movies. Im like DAMIT we've been saying this for months. But thankfully the next gift was the playstation 3 with 2 games n spiderman 3 n she mentioned how it plays blu ray n stuff. It just sucks she had to mention HDDUD at all

I drove by the NBC lot last night in Burbank where they do Ellen and saw a bunch of people outside with PS3s and Rock Band bundles. Didn't see any HD DVD players because I drove by there pretty fast.

That's cool that she gave some great gifts to her audience. HD DVD players and PS3's...sweetness.

That explains it right there. Ellen is contracted with NBC which is part of Universal and Universal is HD DVD exclusive. So basically, NBCUNI is using their own shows to promote their own products. I'm just thankfull Ellen had the sense to push the PS3 over the 360.

"But after three or four times (being nominated), you just want to win. Am I right, Peter O'Toole?"

Big companies push products to TV shows and hosts all the time because what they give out to the audience is pittance to the supposed endorsement by the show/host and/or the ad time the products might cost. However, hosts and producers determine which one gets into the stockings by trying 'em out.

Smaller companies can only HOPE that TV hosts/producers discover their products by accident and love them.

agree, ever notice you don't ever see a blu commercial on cbs or nbc (i may have missed them) and no hddvd on abc or fox. They only promote the sd of a film if it does not come in their chosen format. Just something i have seen

I remember seeing I Do Blu commercials and Blu-Ray movie advertisements during Survivor on CBS.
