Great news. The old DVD is long OOP.
John Savage wasn't willing to be interviewed by Vinegar Syndrome for THE KILLING KIND, so perhaps he holds more affection for INSIDE MOVES. MOVES has a great supporting performance by Amy Wright, and a fine if little-known John Barry score. |

Excellent news. IM is an amazing, depressing, and also uplifting film.
I first saw the film on DVD back in the 200X's. At the time, I remember the DVD release was a big deal - given that the film was so well-done & critically acclaimed, but was also all-but forgotten at that point. The beginning scene [Show spoiler] IIRC, this is also one of David Morse's first movies. Last edited by AnamorphicWidescreen; 11-29-2018 at 11:58 PM. |

I saw this film in the theater when it first came out (I don't think many did) and I've never forgotten it. |

I saw it in the theater, mainly because I was an Amy Wright completist back then. Liked the film a lot, and look forward to the Scorpion release.

This should be an interesting release indeed, since it's a new scan (IP or negative?) that will be in the correct AR for the first time ever. As to the AR, Inside Moves was shot anamorphic scope and Scorpion's description says 2.35:1 which is correct.
All prior releases were pan and scam massacre jobs, while the current HD master going around on streaming is incorrectly presented in 1.78:1 (as that master was allegedly based on a cropped flat widescreen 35mm UK print prepared by Granada for the 2007 Lionsgate DVD). |

I really like the movie, I just wish it ended the way the writer ended it, without Donner's tacked on "Happy Ending"... It loses a star and a half for me because IMHO it doesn't work. He tells in the dvd commentary where it would have ended, it would've been great....

Just watched this tonight. I haven't seen it since 1982 at the cinema (it took two years to get released in my part of the world after the US release date). The restoration is beautiful and the film itself has aged so well. Great performances all round in particular Jon Savage and Diana Scarwid. I real gem of a film and it reminded me how they don't make 'em like this anymore.

It's listed as anamorphic Panavision in the WIDE SCREEN MOVIES book by Carr and Hayes.

Review is up and only 3 stars to this forgotten masterpiece? Pretty savage. No pun intended.

1.78 can't be right, as IMDB says 2.35:1 Panavision which Richard Donner shot titles such as Superman in. It's possible ITV only possesses an element that was cropped to flat widescreen and Scorpion did what they could and called it a day since it's not a horror title. But then IMDB could be wrong yet again (like with The Earthling, which had incorrect AR info until someone posted photos from a flat print that exhibited dead vertical space) and Inside Moves was actually composed and shot in flat ratio.

For what it's worth, the old 2009 Lionsgate DVD has the same opening credit sequence. In both the DVD and Blu-rayu transfers, there is no mention of Panavision or any other anamorphic process.
