Default My setup VS Store display

I bought the Sony bdp-s300 and also have a new panasonic plasma 1080p tv. When I'm in the stores and see the displays they have out of blu-ray players, the movies look 3d like and have an unbeliveable quality to them. At home mine look good but not great. I am using the HDMI cable and have the bdp setup to output auto which uses the tv max 1080p/60. I have tried different settings but it still doesn't look as good. The only movies I have so far are spiderman3, 300 and Underworld.

I do notice that the stores have a sony bd player connected to a sony tv and also a samsung player to a samsung tv. Is that why there is such a difference in picture quality or do the stores have the tv's cranked all the way up in brightness, color etc?

Thanks,

Did tou ever see a real movie playing in a store display? No?
That's because the demos are specially made to show off the format. They pick the best demo scenes from various movies (or make special ones) designed to make the display spectacular.

Your setup us correct with auto out, and HDMI in.
If you are going thru a receiver, be sure those settings are correct.

Stores do this all the time. The same as true when they have a side by side of SD and HD. The SD display will be the lowest quality and have the lowest cables (AV usually) and the HD display will have the best quality pic and HDMI cable. It's all about the bells and whistles...same as a department store with the mirrors to make you look thinner!

try turning the black level to "dark" instead of "light" which is the factory default setting. it will make a huge difference in terms of color saturation. I find that the default settings make the picture look washed out.

I think you probably saw one of the Samsung or Sony 120hz LCD displays. I personally do not like that look. Looks rigid and artificial.

Greetings,
You should try setting the output of your player to direct if your monitor displays 1080p. you will need to change that for sd movies though or it will be 480
Pioneer states that in their manual.(i would think all BD players would be the same)
They also say to use auto if you have a 720p monitor.
After that do a calibration and it will more than likely be better than what you saw in the store
