Hi all. New to the forum and was just looking at the Sonystyle.com site and they say it's not shipping until "on or about December 4".

My e-mail to sonystyle.com: Why the f is the blu-ray player being delayed until december now? That's like the third delay if not more. Sony had better give me a discount or something or I might just say F YOU to the blu-ray disc association and go buy a hd dvd player since their organization seems to have their act together. I ordered mine from amazon.com so I hope to hear from you,Sony, soon or I guess hd dvd has my money! Can't wait to hear about this s*** on AVS

Vick just buy the samsung. Trust me man...the HD-A1 is a turd pile and if I had it to do all over again I would have skipped the A1 all together and just bought the BDP1000 months ago.

No, it clearly says "Targeted Availability: On or about December 4, 2006."

XBR2 took too long; I got the Samsung 7178. Although I have the Samsung BD player, I was going to exchange it for the Sony. Now another delay. I'll just exchange it for the Panasonic. Later Sony. You've done it again.

Quite so, me neither, but all the same that would make this a blessing in disguise rather than a tragedy wouldn't it?

Or some other, silver lining.

100% agree don't go to the dark side Luke. J/K the sammy has done well by me and I am very happy with it. The update did improve that little bit of grain that I was seeing and also heped with that disc load error that I would get 1 out oof 100 times.

Default Sony - preordered

I just got off the phone with SonyStyle customer service. They are still getting their shipment on October 25th, and people who have already preordered will be getting their orders sent out on schedule. The new availability date of December 4th, is for people who place new orders which will be filled when they get their next shippment.

So those who procrastinated and did not pre-order, my sympathies. And I promise to be thinking of you when mine arrives and I get to watch Corpse Bride and Sleepy Hollow on Halloween while passing out candy to the neighbor kids.

Quite right . . . It's called 'allocated distribution'. Each dealer is only allocated a certain amount of the initial product availability, for my store it's 12 units and I already have several pre-orders, and if I average the balance remaining, it leaves me with one per week through the end of the year. I have an additional six on back order for the December distribution. I knew this would be the case and ordered early.

Post Tweeter's allocation . . .

I ordered mine from Tweeter over a week ago. I asked if I was guaranteed a unit if the demand was high.

The sales rep said yes. He showed me on their inventory system that they have 1600 coming into their warehouse on Nov 2nd and a relatively small number were spoken for so far. Consequently I think I am guaranteed one. I really do hope they arrive on Nov 2nd. I will pick it up the day they get them if that's the case.

I thought Tweeter was a relatively small chain compared to Best Buy. I wonder how many units Best Buy and Circuit City plan on getting? If these numbers are high, it could quickly tip the hardware balance to Blu-ray's favor.

Tweeter is small compared to Best Buy Circuit City Wal Mart Target etc. I dont' know who will be getting the sony blu-ray player though. Were getting the pioneer next week so i'm not concerned anyways.

Default Sony - Change of tune

Looks like the last laugh is on me after all. When I got home from work this afternoon an email was waiting for me from SonyStyle. It said

"Thank you for your recent Sony Style order of the BDP-S1 Blu-Ray Disc player.

There has been a change of availability date for this product. We now expect to start shipping no later than December 4th. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change, but this is necessary to ensure that the product meets our highest performance expectations.

As a courtesy, Sony Style would like to offer you a $50 e-coupon good on a future Sony Style order. The e-coupon will be emailed to you approximately 30 days after your order has shipped. There will be one e-coupon per order.

We hope that you are still interested in this product. However, if you decide to cancel your order, you may do so by sending a response to this email or calling our toll-free Customer Care number at (877) 865-7669. If we do not hear from you before we ship the merchandise to you, we will assume that you have agreed to this new ship date.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for choosing Sony Style!

Sony Style Customer Care
www.sonystyle.com

"

and my response

"Just last night I called your customer service center and was assured by your representative that you would still be receiving your shipment on October 25th, and that pre-ordered units would still be shipped. And that the new date of December 4th would only apply to new orders for this product. My reference # given to me for this conversation last night is *****.

At this point, I have no confidence in the integrity of your company or service center and you can cancel my order for the Sony Blu-ray player and keep your $50 e-coupon. I have instead just finished ordering the Philips Blu-ray player through Amazon and even if theirs does not ship until the end of December, I would not take your product on December 4th, November 14th, or even October 25th at this point."

Looks like I might have to wait and watch Corpse Bride and Sleepy Hollow on New Year's Eve since Amazon's preorder email said it is not expecting to ship my order until December 20th, 2006. But, for me, the principle is worth the extra wait of a couple of weeks. And the Philips looks like it is going to be a nice, quality player as well so that does not hurt.

When did you place your order for the blu ray? I placed mine on August 7th. I also called customer service and was told mine would ship on the 25th. She said that not all of the players were going to ship but mine was. So now I don't know what to think.
