PS3... it will be the best now and when the future comes, you can upgrade it to still be the best...

I can't believe I'm going to say this since I am a standalone proponent but get the PS3.
The 1400 has been plagued with disk playing problems and Samsung has been late a few times with firmware upgrades. Now if you still want a standalone then the Panasonic BD30 is the choice. It plays everything and loads most disks as fast as the PS3. |

I would say get the PS3 if you play games. I have to disagree with some of the people that think Samsung 1400 has problems. I have had mine for months now and had now problems. I do agree about the load time being slow. I haven't upgraded the firmware yet and don't plan on it unless a movie doesn't work. I have tried new ones and old ones. No problems here. I guess I'm just one of the few.

If you like the to play games then def get a ps3. Your getting he best of both worlds!. I woulda got a ps3 but i have a wii and 360 and having all 3 systems omg I would go broke between getting games for each an 30 dollar blu-ray movies. The only thing the samsung 1400 has is that it supports better audio, i dnt kno wat its called but audio freaks out there would prob go wit the samsung 1400. The pq is the same on all players, it all depends on the t.v. u have.

If I were your I would go for the PS3 Having two of them myself I could not give it a higher recomendation. It has all I wanted in the system and so much more. I don't know if you have ever owend a sony game console before but I have tried most of them and when I got the PS3 I loved it so much that I sold all my other consoles and games for BD Games and Movies. The sound and picture guality could not be better. It has sound options that can be programed clear throught 7.1 surround, is compatable with 1080P picture through all cables including HDMI. Pristine picture and supirior sound that runs smooth quiet and fast... Do you need more. One suggestion though if you do go with the PS3 make sure that you never turn on the setting under the BD settings that, BD1080P 24Hz output (HDMI). That setting must remain on off, not on or automatic or you will find that none of you BD disk will play unless it says spesificly on the package that it runs at that then the reverse is true, but that should never happen.

Between the two, I would go with the PS3. Samsung in particular, as others have mentioned, has consistently been behind in releasing necessary firmware updates.
If you really want a standalone, check out the Panasonic BD-30K. Unless you REALLY want BD-Live, then get the PS3 or get the Panasonic BD-50k which comes out . . . sometime. |
