I was curious to see if anyone else removes their slipcovers and stores them away like I do. It seems like there is a hardcore cult around slipcovers that I've never quite understood; I don't dislike them, but I am somewhat indifferent. That said, if I have them, I like to keep them in as pristine of shape as possible.
I made a habit of removing slipcovers and storing them away in recent years, as I found with DVDs that slipcovers tended to get shelf-worn fairly easily and look ratty. I also frankly find them to be an inconvenience at times; when I pull a title off my shelf, I like to be able to easily open the case without having to both remove the slipcover and then slide it back over the case (an act which also can wear them out over time). When I get a title with a slipcover, I immediately remove it, flatten it, and store it away with all my others. I even do this with boxed sets, such as the Arrow hard-box releases. Those I obviously don't flatten, but I remove the plastic Blu-ray cases containing the discs, and store the boxes/interior booklets (if there are any) away in a closet with all the others. I find it a lot easier to manage my collection this way, and it also keeps the slipcovers/boxes from being exposed to unnecessary wear-and-tear. What do you do with your slipcovers/boxes/exterior secondary packaging? Keep them? Put them elsewhere? Sell them? Throw them away? |
