With U&S, and $5 Blus poping up, do you have rules you set for yourself. I read some people will buy any blu that is $5. Anyway, my rule is:
Obviously if I like or love the movie I'll but it. If it is a movie I wanted to see in the theater, but never did, I'd buy it. If it is a movie, I have heard good reviews about and I think I'd like it, I'll buy it. But I wont buy something I am not interested in just because it is $5. How bout you? |

I have a strict set of rules for buying all of the BDs I buy and I rarely ever brake them.
New releases in a standard case: $19.99 or less New releases in a digibook: $25 or less New releases in a steelbook: $30 or less Catalogs in a standard case: $13 or less Catalogs in a digibook: $25 or less Catalogs in a steelbook: $25 or less Now, if it's a catalog I want, but am not dying to have it I'll wait for $10 or less. 5 dollar titles are pretty much sure buys anytime I find them. As long as I know that I like the film, or in the event of not having seen it, believe it to be something I may enjoy, then I'll usually grab it. Titles I do or do not already own of DVD don't usually make a difference either, since a good transfer warrants the double dip.

I don't have any 'rules' per se. I have spent as much as $30 on a single title ('as good as it gets') but on average I spend less than $10/movie. There's no way I'd get ANY and every $5 movie. Ridiculous.
I do feel as if I'm getting a really good value on blurays vs. dvd's: PQ is vastly superior and I'm spending less on average per movie. Sadly, it's probably thanks to all of the pirating that's going on that the price is so low? Anyway, this thread probably belongs in deals. |

I don't really have "rules" per se, other than I have to be interested in the 1st place. At least on some level I have to feel I will enjoy the film. If I absolutely don't (or won't) enjoy the film, then even $1 is too much. No point in collecting trash.
I will however be more willing to just buy "fun" or "entertaining" films for $5 and I don't even care if it's in a bare-bones package (which is why I picked up stuff like Expendables, Red, Muppets from Space, Total Recall, Gremlins 2, etc). If I feel like there's a chance I will be entertained then $5 is worth it to me, but $15 or $20 would be way too much. To me if a disc is $20 it better be pristine PQ/AQ, a fully restored all-time classic, and absolutely loaded with extras. But I don't even like spending $20 in those cases unless I REALLY have to (i.e. in the few cases where the disc will never hit that price at retail). |

I only buy movies I know I will watch more than once.
Even then, I will almost never buy something for more than $9.99. Some exceptions apply, like the Apocalypse Now FD Edition, Pixar, box sets, etc. All movies drop in price sooner or later. I'm perfectly happy with what I have until that day comes. ![]() |

For me there are really no set rules. Certain movies I am willing to pay more for and others I will wait for. I guess it just boils to how much I like the film and than I decide how much is the most I am willing to pay for it.

It depend if the PQ and AQ are worth the buy. This week im thinking of getting flash gordon I've never seen it but I saw the review plus with the queen soundtrack of the movie makes it worth the 5 dollar. But I won't buy a film like predator UHE cuz the PQ is horrible I rather wait for something better

New Release I've been awaiting, and have to get asap - $22.99, and under.
New Release I want to blind buy - $17.99, and under. (hardly ever blind buy for this much, but in some rare occasions, I miss a movie I wanted to see badly in theaters, and they will fall in this category) Recent Release I've awaited a price drop - $14.99, and under. Recent Release I'm considering blind buying - $12.99, and under. Catalogue Title I need asap - $9.99, and under. (In memory, the only one I severely broke this for was Chinatown, because I knew it was a great film, and couldn't miss out on that artwork) Cataogue Title I can wait for - $7.99, and under. |

Yeah, some movies you know are mediocre, possibly even bad, but you like them for whatever quirky little reasons. Maybe they hit home, or remind you of something in your life. I have a few of those in my collection. Not ashamed to admit it.

My Blu-ray rules:
-No Canadian or any other imports of films that have US releases with identical specs and extras. However, I will buy imports if they're superior to inferior US releases (Halloween H20, Night of The Living Dead), that aren't available in the US (Phenomena), or just as good as/have exclusive material not available on US releases (like Deep Red) -No releases of films featuring incorrect aspect ratios. -Only 1080p/24fps (I'm also fine with 1080i just as long it's in the correct 24fps speed) -I used to have a rule about not buying Blu-ray/DVD Combos, but seeing as there will be films that may never get Blu-ray only releases, I have no choice -But, no Blu-ray/DVD combos of films that DO have Blu-ray only releases -Replace old Blu-rays that are inferior to the new releases (Spaceballs for example) -Keep Blu-rays of a film even though I have/will be getting another edition of because of different extras (like Halloween II) -Even if a films has changes made (Star Wars, The Evil Dead), I'll still buy them cuz they're my favorite movies. |
