Yeah, some movies you know are mediocre, possibly even bad, but you like them for whatever quirky little reasons. Maybe they hit home, or remind you of something in your life. I have a few of those in my collection. Not ashamed to admit it.

My Blu-ray rules:
-No Canadian or any other imports of films that have US releases with identical specs and extras. However, I will buy imports if they're superior to inferior US releases (Halloween H20, Night of The Living Dead), that aren't available in the US (Phenomena), or just as good as/have exclusive material not available on US releases (like Deep Red) -No releases of films featuring incorrect aspect ratios. -Only 1080p/24fps (I'm also fine with 1080i just as long it's in the correct 24fps speed) -I used to have a rule about not buying Blu-ray/DVD Combos, but seeing as there will be films that may never get Blu-ray only releases, I have no choice -But, no Blu-ray/DVD combos of films that DO have Blu-ray only releases -Replace old Blu-rays that are inferior to the new releases (Spaceballs for example) -Keep Blu-rays of a film even though I have/will be getting another edition of because of different extras (like Halloween II) -Even if a films has changes made (Star Wars, The Evil Dead), I'll still buy them cuz they're my favorite movies. |

Basically, if it's five bucks, I'll blind-buy pretty much anything, as you can get usually at least two or three of those bucks back selling to Amazon or a used DVD store. I'll admit there are a number of titles I'm not absolutely crazy about I've picked up during Best Buy's U&S sale just because they were so cheap (like Knight & Day...enjoyable if unmemorable B--ish action romp, but for a fiver? Why not?).

I have no rules on this matter, if i really want it i'll buy it (if i have the cash, which is droping drastically in the last few months :P) sure there are cases where the price is high in my book, usually with blind buys, so i just wait for it to drop.

I usually wait until a movie I want is under $10. However, if it's something I really, really, really want I'll buy it regardless of the price (the upcoming release of Prometheus falls into this category). Also, if it's a movie I really like that has some special packaging or limited edition whatnot, I'll buy that regardless of price as well.

$5 BDs can also be found online. Go to Amazon and then go to the blu-ray section and on the left click the price point you are looking for. If they are under $10 you can usually find used ones for as little as $2.99 plus shipping. Walmart has a decent number of $5 blu-rays online and a lot for under $10. The store itself has some for $5 or $7.99. I bought all of my Resident Evil steelbooks for $7.99 each. Their are deals to be had..you just have to look. I just recently bought Tropic Thunder and Date Night used on Amazon with original slipcovers. I paid $17 for both.

Any blu that I have even the slightest amount of interest in, I will buy for 5 bucks.
I feel it's worth it considering: -the price it costs to rent -not feeling obligated to watch it the first night like I do when I rent from redbox -the money saved by not wasting money on rented titles that I end up liking and wanting to buy. |

I have been buying so many blu-rays lately and I still have many that I haven't even watched yet. So I can wait for movies to go down in price.
I don't buy new releases anymore unless it has an exclusive extras. (plan to get Avengers & Hunger Games at Target for extra disc on release day) I will wait until I can get it for around $10 even if it's the movie I love (reason I didn't pick up "Drive" and Fincher's "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" yet.) And around $30 for those big limited edition boxes.(waiting for Singin' in the Rain to hit that price) For $5, I am willing to just about buy any movies with good reviews even if I didn't see it. Only time I will not buy it at this price is if it's only mediocre movie without any extras or if I have seen it and hated it. Then I will not even pay $1 for it. |

Same rules as any price really.
Has to be something I've seen and that I think I'll rewatch at least once every handful of years. Bought way too many DVDs back in the day that I ended up never watching since I only watch a couple movies a week and generally spend that time watching something for the first time from Netflix. So I'm a lot more selective in what I buy these days as a big film library is just clutter than seldom gets touched for me. And I still haven't been as selective as I should on Blus as I have some I've had for 2 or 3 years without having watched since buying them. What I try to do now is only buy something if I want to watch it that week. Otherwise it will probably always be cheaper later, and if not I can always netflix if I get an itch to watch it and the current price at the time is too high. I wont just go out and buy a bluray cuz its 5. I only buy blurays that I know are gonna have a high replay factor in my home, I dont care if they are 5.
The only real rule I have is that I usually try to stay under 15 for any bluray, I dont care if its steelbook, digibook or anything else for that matter. Now I do bend the rules sometimes if its gonna be some store exclusive. I will def be bending the rules if the Best buy exclusive of E.T. is a digibook. |

Considering the cheapest I can see a movie around here is for $4.50 at the theater, I consider a $5 blu-ray a safe purchase. or at least if I hate it/dislike, I won't feel guilty as I could just as easily hate a movie at the theater.
$22.99 is the max I ever pay for a combo new release (for films I must have on first day) Most single disc blus I don't like paying over 17.99 and many times I will wait until 14.99 or less unless it is something I really want. No single disc I will ever pay over 19.99 |

There is one AMC theater that only charges $5 for matinee showing, but this theater is like a KMART that hasn't been updated since the 70's. Really crappy quality. I saw Batman there and the speakers were all blown out, there was a ceiling fan making audible noises during any "quieter" scenes, and even the image on the screen appeared slightly "damaged" at times (like they had some ancient broken down 35mm projection system rather than digital, if that's even still possible with a picture like Batman). I made the mistake of using rewards points to get a couple AMC gift cards, so I'll have to visit this dumpy theater at least 3 or 4 more times unless I just blow it all on candy and popcorn or just buy tickets for other people. ![]() Quote:
I don't even look at new releases that are $20. That actually is a rule I have. No overpriced new releases. I prefer to rent brand new releases and stick to buying catalogue. Lately there have been lots of catalogue releases that have movie cash, which works out even better. |

No rules per se. At $5 if i think its a movie i will watch at least 1 more time, or if its a blind buy that im interested in checking out then ill buy it. I dont usually do blind buys, but at $5 hard to argue against it if its something i'm remotely interested in seeing.

Depends, if I wanted to see it and so I would, because then if I rented it, then I'd be out on that money. I recently purchased 28 Weeks Later and honestly didn't care for it, I haven't seen the first one, so I don't if that would do anything, but if the price is good, then I will jump in on it.
