Default Blu-ray question?

I have a 4:3 aspect ratio hdtv and wanted to know is there no way to view blu-ray movies full screen without buying a widescreen display?

i don't think so because (1) i don't even think you can stretch out Blu-ray movies from 4:3 to 16:9, and (2) even if you could, you wouldn't be looking at HD anymore, you'd be looking at glunk

you can run 19x9 on a 4x3, you will just get bars at the top and a very small viewing area.. . the best you will get is 480, just like a dvd

edit:

You say it is a HDTV in 4x3...??? what kind of inputs, model, etc
I thought the HD spec, included 16x9

A Blu-ray movie presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio will fill the screen.

A Blu-ray movie presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio will display black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. This is known as original aspect ratio and is really the best way to watch a movie, because the screen contains more information.

I hope this helps.

Because you've got the video playback set to zoom or something.

While the video's playing:

TRIANGLE button > Screen Mode icon
