Default Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Remaster In Development

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/...5-its-claimed/

Quote:
Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to release a remake of PS4 title Horizon Zero Dawn for PlayStation 5.

That’s according to a report by MP1ST, which VGC can corroborate via our own sources.

The updated version of the 2017 Guerrilla Games title will feature improved visuals to bring it up to par with this year’s sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, in the form of new character models, lighting and animations, it’s claimed.

In addition, it’s claimed the new version of Zero Dawn will add accessibility features, graphics modes and quality of life improvements to the gameplay itself.
https://mp1st.com/news/report-horizo...in-development

Quote:
Our source didn’t elaborate whether or not this was a “built from the ground up” style of remake, however we were told that the remake features an improved lighting system (ambient occlusion, and such), overhauled textures and better animations, with new character models to match those found in the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.

Outside of that, we were told there is big focus on bringing the accessibility options that the sequel introduced.

Different graphic modes will also be available, though that is a given since most PS5 games have a performance, quality, and uncapped performance to take advantage of VRR (variable refresh rate). For gameplay changes themselves, there are some subtle improvements, mostly those being the quality of life improvements the sequel brought.

It wasn’t confirmed whether or not we would see flyable mounts, or a glider, though we suppose that is unlikely given to their story related importance in the sequel.

While Horizon Zero Dawn did see a performance patch released for the PS4 that allowed the PS5 to run it at a unlocked, but stable 60fps with 2160p checkerboarding resolution, the title has yet to natively receive a PS5 port that takes advantage of the hardware, as well as the DualSense features.

A PC port, however, was released, which introduced some PC specific improvements such as draw distance, higher frame rates, widescreen support, and more.

Yet despite those improvements, the PC release was still just a port of the original, meaning graphically, the textures and character models all remained the same for the most parts.

It is to our understanding that the Horizon Zero Dawn remake/remaster will bring it closer to Forbidden West, from improved textures, draw distance, character models, to even new and improved animations, and much more.

Seems pointless, the original on PS5 already looks great. Anyway, where do I send my money?

Sony this gen, I swear. It'll be fine if it's ten bucks, or free. Any more than that and they're out of their god damn minds.

Netflix actually.

And the game runs at 4k 60fps on ps5, AND has a pc port. Utterly ridiculous. Practically confirms God of War is next, and who knows? Maybe season 2 of last of us will get us another remake.

Assuming this is all true and again, not a free upgrade.

If its real I would think best case scenario is $10-20 upgrade for existing owners with a $70 MSRP standalone.

Take that remaster/remake money and pour it into inFAMOUS 1 and 2 where it belongs Sony. Or Sly Cooper trilogy.

That's crazy. I mean 69.99 for The Last Of Us remake was brutal. I already played it on ps3, remastered ps4 a few times. It's essentially the same but polished up no way it deserves 69.99 price tag that is a robbery that only fanboys will support.

People are complaining about having to pay for a better version of something on a site dedicated to a format that provides better versions for a higher price.

I'm just hoping it gets a disc release (unlike Spider-Man remastered).

That's one way to look at it. Another is to actually consider that the game is only 5 years old and already runs at a high resolution and 60 FPS. Other than adding the accessibility features for people who need them, this couldn't be more pointless. Even factoring in people who couldn't play the game before, if it ends up being $70, then they are price gouging everybody.

Will I still get it at some point? Probably, as Horizon is my new favorite game series now that Uncharted is likely dead, but that doesn't make this any less pointless. I'm also definitely not paying $70 for it no matter what. I am currently playing The Last of Us Part 1, but before I get called a hypocrite, I got it for free.

There is absolutely no reason to assume this will be $70. It's a remaster, not a remake; comparing it to The Last of Us Part I is ridiculous.

This release will likely be comparable to Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves or Spider-Man Remastered, neither of which were ever sold for $70.

Well actually it’s PlayStation which is a separate division from Sony but I get what ya meant.

They are also probably hard at work with a Ghost of Tsushima Remake.

and we often use this site to decide if the "upgrade" it worth it or not. Pretty sure we all know how this will go, after seeing The Last of Us. I'm not complaining about having to pay more, because I simply have no interest in playing a slightly better version of a game I just beat last gen. Easy pass.

This feels completely unnecessary to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Game already looks and plays beautifully on the PS5.

Will most likely be another upgrade to take advantage of some PS5 features like VRR. I’d say $10-20 at most going by stuff like Death Stranding, Uncharted. I’d guess it’s to bring a bit more parity with the PC version of HZD, which runs at higher frame rates. I’d be shocked if we didn’t get one for God of War 2018 eventually and TLOU 2 next year sometime too.

Doubt I'll take advantage. The game play improvements made to Forbidden West, such as the improved traversal, (glider and flying), the ability to swim under water, improvements to melee combat, etc. Kind of render Zero Dawn obsolete for me now. I don't think an aesthetic facelift will be enough to entice me to jump back in. However this is great for those who've never played the first game.

If this doesn’t have an upgrade path and does launch at full retail MSRP (if real) I will buy it because the game is one of my Top 10 of all time and Top 3 (if not #1) video game narratives ever despite it already looking and playing great on backward compatibility. Its not like this is a new practice like some act like though, the studios have been doing this as far back as the NES.

In this instance I’m part of the ‘problem’ just like others were for Last of Us most recently and many other examples going back. I’m willing to bet we see God of War remastered before its tv show just like this and Last of Us. Just vote with your wallets.

You're not a "problem" just like this whole thing isn't a problem, despite what the usual suspects on this forum say. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this existing. If it's not for you, don't buy it. Just ignore it and move on. That's what I'm doing, just like I did with TLOU Part 1 Remake. No harm, no foul.

Agreed. If there wasn’t an audience for these things the studios wouldn’t keep making them. I thought Last of Us for $70 was absurd but many many others disagreed and bought it. These aren’t being made out of the kindness of developers’ hearts, they are made because they believe they will be profitable.

Probably looking at the death of Playstation in the headlights. Jim Ryan is a cancer to Sony. Hopefully he doesn't kill the brand permanently. Been gaming on Playstation since the launch of PS1, but the PS5 is the first time I've ever had the desire to not buy a Sony console. Hell, I didn't even buy a PS4 until it got a slim model. Ever since I got a Steam Deck, I've never looked back. Plus, when you can get bundles of games for virtually nothing, it's hard to buy the same games on consoles for a lot more. Used to not like the idea of gaming crunched up to a computer, but it's a lot like a console experience now. Got my Steam Deck a couple months ago and I've gotten probably close to 300 games since then, and cost me virtually nothing, well all things considered. Hell, I just got Shenmue III for a whopping $1. Got almost every Resident Evil game made on Steam not long ago for like $30. There was a Ukraine bundle at Humble Bundle not long ago with over 200 pieces of content for a whopping $40. Plus, all Sony's games are coming to PC anyway, and playable on the Deck.

Sorry Sony you're dead to me and you can probably thank the cancer that is Jim Ryan for it.
