I just got my Onkyo 705.. Now is there anything that I need to change in my PS3 settings so that I get the proper audio?
BD/DVD Settings BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) - Linear or Bitsream? BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) - don't need to worry about this if I'm not using an optical cord correct? Music Settings Audio CD Import - AAC, MP3, or ATRAC and at what Bit Rate? Anything else I'm missing? Thanks.. |

You may also want to read this post. I read it after I figured out a few things but it's right on point.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...26&postcount=1 I thought I was getting good sounds until I went in and checked all the boxes manual Settings > Sound Settings > Audio Output Settings > HDMI > Automatic I changed it to manual instead of Automatic, and from that change I was getting the TrueHD to play Multi channel on the reciever |

Thanks everybody. I love this thing. And thanks HAMP for that thread post, it explained alot. I wasn't getting all my speakers to play during playback of CDs i saved on the hard drive. So i went thru and manually unchecked every PCM option, was this right?? Then it said something about going into the settings during a BD movie so i can check those options as they are needed for the BD. Can somebody explain this to me or am i totally off with it??

Usually music tracks won't play on all your speakers because they are in stereo sound. That means the cd tracks are in 2.0 (only your two front speakers will play).
Unselecting PCM won't change that, in fact you should turn them back on so your PS3 will be able to output them. If you want music to play from all your speakers, use listening modes on your receiver such as PLII:Neo6 or All Channel Stereo (I really don't like this one but you may). |

havent tried with music on the ps3, but for movies on the drive that are encoded with 5.1, if you uncheck the 5.1 and 7.1 pcm, you can then matrix the sound and the receiver will detect the digital signal. im sure its similar to the music on the hard drive |

Oh I see where you're confused on that post
Quote:
Just set it to Automatic not manual and the PS3 will pick everything for you. Then if you want your music from all the speakers, do what I mentioned above on your receiver. |

So should I leave everything checked under the Audio Output Settings? When I uncheck every PCM option, the CD playback and even the clicky noise when you move the cursor play over all the speakers instead of just the front 2 when the PCM options are chosen. I just don't want my BD playback audio to suffer if these options aren't chosen.

I got it to play on all the speakers by uncheckin the PCM options. But im probably going to leave them all checked and do what you said and just change the listening mode instead so my BD audio doesn't suffer. What does the Pure Audio button do like you said?

In this mode, the display and video circuitry are turned off, minimizing possible noise sources for the ultimate in high-fidelity reproduction. (As the video circuitry is turned off, only video signals input through HDMI IN can be output.) the button also shines a bright blue light that looks cool in the dark ![]() |

Pure Audio means the receiver takes the signal and outputs it with no processing. Just straight in and straight out.
There are lengthy descriptions of all the listening modes in the user manual. They're actually quite informative and will give you a good idea of what to use when. Hopefully it helps you. |
