So, they lost the deleted scenes (with commentary) from the DVD? Damn it, Universal. Worst anniversary celebration ever.

I have the UK release of this otherwise I'd be more excited, nice announcement though.

This one is interesting to me, because Sony released it in the UK. Doesn't Sony have a better reputation for transfers than Universal?

Ultimately, I'm more concerned with pq than anything else, so when something I imported gets a US release, that's how I determine to double dip or not.

I'm wondering if this time around if I'm pretty safe having a Sony release than worrying that Universal will do a better job. Have they ever done a better job?

That's a pretty big loss.

I have no idea, I do know I have pretty much no way to unload my UK release if I get the US one so there's pretty much no way I'll be getting this on BD again unless my US release stops working.

This made me go and get my UK copy. There are all the deleted scenes, but with no commentary.

Someone posted a long while back a bunch of titles that would be getting released here and this was one of them. That poster has been right about everything so far, so I hope he won't be wrong about Universal bringing Liar Liar to bd this year too. Unlike this bd and others I've imported, that one has nothing but dreadful reviews of the pq, so I'm hoping Universal will make it better. Even by their usual not very high standards, a moderate upgrade in pq would probably merit a purchase.

That, to me, is the main reason I will hang on to this import. I just skimmed through it again and it looks VERY good. If Universal does their very best, not something I'd wager on them doing, I don't think they'll top this transfer.

It's. about. time. I've been waiting on this one for ages. I know I could have just imported it, but I try not to unless it's for better packaging in my opinion (Star Wars).

As for the PQ, it's entirely possible that they just use whatever Sony did for the UK release.

I just checked Amazon's UK website. The total price in USD and including shipping for this movie would be $11.49. After the foreign transaction fee to my credit card, the total price would still be under $12. I'd like to know if you would recommend waiting for the US version, or getting the UK version now? Which is better, especially when factoring in cost?

Maybe just wait for the US review. The UK transfer is REALLY nice and you get the deleted scenes, but you don't get the DVD, DC and the handsome slip.

If the BD.com review is 3.5 or lowere for pq or mentions DNR being an issue, then you know the Sony/UK version is the sure-fire way to go. I doubt the price will go up on the UK version, as it's been out for a good while. And if it does go up a little, it will go right back down.

So unhappy that Universal keeps dumping extras. They dumped:

Notting Hill - commentary
About a Boy - deleted scenes and music video
and the deleted scenes here.

They're SD and take up absolutely no room. I can only assume it must be some legal garbage due to them not having properly negotiated the rights with the talent involved on the commentaries and in the scenes for their use in perpetuity. It would be monumentally insane to intentionally leave off finished bonus material just out of laziness.

Well, let's wait a second, here.

The originally press releases for the American Pie movies were incomplete as well and we ended up getting ALL extras. Might be the same thing here.

See what happens when the movie is finally released.

Are all the extras, including the deleted scenes, in the UK BD version or is it universal that some extras were dropped from all BD versions?

The UK BD is from Sony. It has the 30 mins of deleted scenes, but not the Soderbergh commentary over them. Note that he did not record a commentary for the feature, so this is the only commentary of his on the film.

I suspect the dropped commentaries on BD are due to having to otherwise repay the talent involved to use the audio tracks.

Exactly. These aren't even out yet. I doubt anything that was on the HD-DVD releases will be missing from the Blu-Ray releases. There isn't any reason to think they will at this point.

Some extras I can live without, but many of these deleted scenes were phenomenal. I don't want to have to buy a DVD just so I can see them again. Let's hope they'll make it to the BD.
