Default How often do games not work on this pos?

So the joy of getting the PS5 is already over. Bought three used games for it, Guardians of the Galaxy is a blast. Ghost of Tsushima stops installing at 79% and Assassins Creed won’t run without an update it claims it can’t install. Fixing to return them, but wondering if I should just eBay the console and save the aggravation.

Do games do this all the time, or only flawless used ones?

Sorry to hear that. Your title description got me laughing though by describing the PS5 as a POS. Some of Sony's design choices may fit that description at times.
Thankfully I've had mostly good experiences with my PS5, and good to hear your GOTGalaxy game worked well.
Ghost of Tushima, I bought the PS4 disc version for Christmas, and upgraded to the PS5 version without any download issues. The game looks excellent at 4K 60 fps on PS5. I have a long way to finish it though.

AC I haven't tried, but haven't heard anyone with issues installing it. That stinks and is unusual. Sounds like disc versions which should load properly.

It may be where you got the games from. I've purchased many 2nd hand games and haven't had any issues on my PS5. This includes upgrading the PS4 version to PS5.

I never download patches and both the PS4 version and PS5 Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima ran perfectly all the way through. I also played a couple hours of the PS5 version of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and didn't encounter any problems.

It sounds like you have defective discs or a defective system.

What’s the deal/benefit of buying PS4 discs and upgrading to the PS5 version? What do they charge?

I’ve had exceptionally bad luck with PlayStation systems. Having to get the PS2 refurbished for $120 every 9 months or so, then PS3 controllers kept dying one after the other, to the point I found a wired controller for it. I sold the PS4 out of disgust when my two controllers died very shortly after getting the system, and they wouldn’t go back together right after replacing the batteries.

So I finally get a PS5 and 2 of the 3 games I got won’t work. Just got back from returning them, GameStop guy said he’s never heard of such issues.

And playing Guardians I just found out my console has a bug where it goes into rest mode after 20 minutes, I’m spite of being set to never turn off.

Guess it’s going back to the store. Xbox games might not look as good, but least they play.

That does sound like a curse. I have only had a PS3 (60GB launch) and 360 (Elite) die on me (the latter replaced under warranty with a good working one).

The PS3 died during the Sony hack which I think was 2010. So I never got the "welcome back" free game rewards.

I had this happen with Returnal. It wouldn't install past like 70%. Eventually it worked after trying for awhile, but that lead me to selling all my discs and just going digital. I've read online this has happened to other people so its just a matter of the disc install being junky. Typical weird PS hardware issues I've seen since they started using hard drives.

Never had any of these problems, sorry to hear. It sounds like you bought a janky PS5. Did you get in on the black market or second hand?

Got it new from GameStop online.

I picked up a new copy of Assassins Creed, started with a fresh install, it updated and I’ve been playing it for 20 minutes.. that’s when the PS5 decides to go into rest mode. I do have it where it only does that after the first 20 minutes, then the console stays on after(that’s a fun bug I hope they fix.

Got a new copy of Ghost of Tsushima and Resident Evil Village on the way. Fingers crossed.

Well they can’t fix what isn’t broke.

If you have your console set to turn off after X amount of minutes, it will do just that.

It’s set to turn off or go to rest mode never. I googled it, it’s a known bug

Yes, the PS4 controllers (while they control well) were absolute garbage POS controllers in terms of parts and port connection design from some clown at Sony. Never had a worse experience with Sony's PS4 controller and I still have my Sega Master System, Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS5 original controllers, all working without issues after many years of gaming. For the PS4 Sony controllers, they stopped working properly/stopped charging, and I bought a 3rd party knockoff wired PS4 controller just like the Sony one, and it's been without issues for over a year now. The PS4 Sony ones started having issues in the first month or so.

I had a Sony Walkman that broke from just playing normal cassette tapes when I was a kid, while playing those same cassettes on a Panasonic "walkman", zero issues for many years.

PS5 however, no issues other than the sluggish interface from November 13, 2020 till they finally updated it shortly after thankfully.

This was one video I could find that might help, but if it's a bug, I believe it.
I told my PS5 in options settings to NOT automatically download updates unless I request it, and it automatically downloads updates.

I remember having some major issues downloading/installing/running games on my PS5 back when I got it at launch. Haven't had those types of issues in over a year, though. For the most part I think it's a very nice console. I just really dislike the controllers but there's not much I can do about that.

I do wish it were as simple as telling it not to go into rest mode. It’s been set like that since immediately after the first time it happened. Indeed the PS5 laughs in the face of user settings.

I finally stopped having to refurb the PS2 when I stopped using it as a DVD player, apparently that was wearing out the laser.

Oh yeah, even now there’s a dead PS3 controller in my closet I’ll have to order a battery for when I get the urge to play a PS1 or 2 game.

OP is incredibly unlucky but i do know for a fact that on my PS4 that certain games wouldn't even install. Like a Spider-Man PS4 disc that only would work as an authentication if you installed the game from another properly working disc.

Apparently Sony has some poor issues with some consoles that don't recognise some discs.

Yeah, my PS2 won't play blue backed discs, "Disc read error" is a common message on PS2. If i put the console upside down with the disc inside, sometimes it'll play them.

Sorry to hear that.

That reminds me of the Watch Dogs 1 version, which I wanted to play on PS5 with the Season pass of WDLegion, and for whatever reason, it hid the Watch Dogs 1 icon on PS5 so I couldn't find it. Then did a search, found it, and it wouldn't start, saying content was not installed even though I just finished the DLC mission for it, Bad Blood. I took the whole thing off the PS5 and kept it on the PS4 instead.

Haven't had that happen, but my son's TV would shut off randomly while playing any game on the PS5. Finally had to turn off the HDMI CEC and it solved the problem.

His PS5 also used to shut down after playing PS5 games for around 30-45 minutes, but would play PS4 games just fine. I finally took it apart and cleaned it by watching a couple youtube videos. I figured it can't hurt to try it before sending it to Sony for repair. Removed one of the main fans, cleaned it with a tooth brush, and used a vacuum on two of the exposed "holes" recommended in the video. There was a lot of dust around the fans, so it appears the excessive dust was causing the PS5 to overheat. Haven't had any problems playing PS5 games since I cleaned it. It's ridiculous that the console got so dirty within the 1st year of use that it started overheating. My son also has a Xbox One X in the same room and never had any issues with it.
