Default 3D Bee Converter?

From what I have gathered, the 3D Bee is an in-line device that converts a 2D signal to 3D, and can export this signal as either HDMI 1.4 3D or 3D Ready 3D (720p120).

This brings to mind 2 questions:

How decent is its conversion quality, and can it convert a 3D signal from HDMI 1.4 to 3D Ready?

From what I've read, all it does is convert 2D material into 3D. Nothing more than a simulation mode that most of us have on our equipment anyway

Sadly my setup doesn't have any real-time 3d conversion, except for maybe PowerDVD. The site for the Bee mentions that it can do the 720p120 3D Ready, but then it also leaves me unsure if it truly can (I might also need 800p, which would leave me outta luck).

If it did, for sure, I'd get it as I've been trying to get a 3D Ready converter, which are nowadays rarer than hen's teeth, and one that can also do 2D->3D would be a bonus, even if the simulated 3D were what the kids call "jank"

I'm doing a lot of 3D watching on the go, and being able to use my 3D Ready short throw or low-wattage LED projectors seems advantageous since so many PS3D games are in 720p anyhow.

Hi just

I didn't know your player and monitor does not have this feature. As you might have read, both okie and I love simulating 3D despite its obvious limitations.

I've noticed a few 2D to 3D converters for 3D monitors on the market but they ship out of china so don't even know if you can get it. Plus they have European plugs. This is one I found.

Thanks Joe.

That converter seems similar to the 3D Bee, but for $40+ less. It looks like it can convert 2D to 3D Ready, but I'm not sure that it could convert HDMI 3D into 3D Ready. Maybe it can, and the instructions are just unclear, as when these gizmos were rolling out, there was a market for 3D Bluray->3D Ready converter boxes as 3D Ready projectors were common but HDMI 3D projectors weren't.

Interestingly, these converters mention that the pop-out will be 30% greater when used on a 720p display than they are on a 1080p display. I hadn't considered that it would work like this.

Have you or the other 3D gurus on here seen what the results of these sort of converters look like? Can they be used to enhance the 3D of content that is already 3D?

Hi Just

I want to thank you so very much for mentioning many say these converters have more pop out on a 720p display.

Besides my main setup, in my den I have the old 3D video wizard which is a plug in device that sends an anaglyph picture to any standard HD TV enabling one to watch 3D blu-rays. Note I needed to recalibrate my monitor settings using a separate video mode because adjustments for standard HD created ghosting, incorrect color saturation, contrast etc. When adjusted properly it indeed provides a very satisfying 3D picture but as expected, not quite the level of stereoscopic. Compared to my actual 3D monitor the depth is maybe 75 percent with a slightly darker picture and occasional, minute shimmering.

While that monitor is 1080p, I changed the output of my 3D player to 720p. YES! It added more depth and picture quality and I'm estatic.

Unfortunately, the only device that can truly improve the picture quality coming from an actual stereoscopic monitor is the now nearly impossible to find Darbee 5000s. It is a processor, not an enhancer, and the difference is stunning. I have one for each of my two setups. It is also HDMI but works only for 1080p monitors.
