Disney Need for Speed 3D Blu-ray (2014) [Region Locked / Free]

Need For Speed has been released on 3D Blu-ray in several countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong, Mexico and Australia. Most releases are region locked (the UK release is Region B locked for example) but the Australian, Mexican and Brazilian releases are Region Free.

Original post:
Marketsaw first reported this, and a new international poster confirms it! Really hope the 3d version is coming to the U.S.

Plus the movie looks like adrenaline-pumping fun to me lol

Looks like a "cool" 3d movie, could be a lot of fun.

I just wish the U.S. studio branch for Touchstone would hurry up and confirm the 3d version. It seems asinine to wait less than 3 months before release to confirm it lol

Are we 100% certain this is in 3D? I haven't seen any mention of 3D for this movie until this thread. I really hope it is, have been looking forward to this, big Aaron Paul fan.

I reported seeing a 3D preview of this a couple months back but nobody believed me. And I was kinda doubting myself until I saw this thread. I know what I saw lol

To get excited about this movie, watch the video of Aaron Paul's interview and lap time on Top Gear last week! One word - FAST!

Thumbs up

Need For Speed is one of the best Video Game inspired movies I've seen, thanks to the story being about more than just racing and getting away from cops. Imogen Poots' (the female lead) and Aaron Paul's (the race car mechanic) interaction throughout the movie developed as the story went on and made me care about what happened to their characters. This movie definitely has heart IMO (in my opinion).
Racing on public streets puts innocent lives in danger as this movie demonstrated (best to race in a closed course), but within the confines of the main characters and their motivations, great movie. There was a good villain here that kept things interesting.

The racing and chases were plentiful and awesome and include some top notch camera angles of the cars, interior dash views, and speed. Lots of exciting high speed action that was easy to keep track of. If you enjoy cars and car chase movies, check it out. Great special effects and some of the crashes were brutal. Really enjoyed the movie, characters, chases, performance sports cars, and 3D in Need for Speed. The movie is definitely over 2 hours, but worth it IMO.

Distributed by Disney, created by Dreamworks, Sony, WB, etc. Didn't spot who the 3D conversion team was in the ending credits, unless it showed it at the very last second after the Dreamworks Logo.

3D Mini Review of Need For Speed 3D The Movie:

3D Layers: 8/10 A good mix of Medium, upper medium and a few shots of strong 3D. Really nicely done 3D here. Regal Cinema Theater does a nice job with the 3D projection.
3D Pop Out: 5/10. Not designed for many pop outs, they are far and few between, but there are a couple, especially the garbage bags that go flying out of the screen in the beginning night city race.
3D Volume: 8/10. The faces look rounded nicely IMO, but others may be better judges of the roundness than myself with conversions.
3D Final: 8/10. Really nicely done, mostly medium 3D added a nice dimension to the story and amped up the 3D during the car chases.

Will definitely buy the blu ray 3D of NFS 3D, guessing around July 2014.

Took my fiancee this weekend, and I definitely agree that it's one of the best video game movies ever. The 3d conversion to me is outstanding. It has some of the best pop outs ever and it's surprising and wonderful how emotionally visceral and powerful the pop outs are during the car crashes. The 3d conversion was amazing and it completely added to the experience with outstanding depth of field. The story was simple, but completely in line with the video game property and the cast was great. Arron Paul could've talked more but he was still a fun and simple lead. The car sequences in my eye are some of the most spectacular and awe-inspiring ever put to film. Can't recommend this film enough. Day one on 3d bluray and a kickass blockbuster

Also after the end credits, it showed that stereo D did the 3d conversion and it had a huge list of names. I freaking love stereo D!

Awesome. Glad you both enjoyed it. The 3D definitely drew me into this movie. Thanks for checking out those end credits. I was right at the door looking back assuming it was over after the Dreamworks logo popped up at the end, and then spotted two quick credits flash onscreen, so that must have been the conversion team. They did an awesome job considering this may have been a last minute conversion.

Still thinking back to that race between Aaron Paul's character and his mechanic brother Pete along with his nemesis on the freeway with the three cars. The Red Koensigg Alegra (spelling way off ) is the same car in the new PS4 NFS Rivals, along with quite a few other sports cars. And that was only one of the beginning races. Great stuff here and I'd say 90% of the movie had a sports car in every shot. The new red Ford Mustang at the end looks cool also; nice design.

Yeah, it was a fun movie. There was one goofy scene played for laughs that they could have skipped, but otherwise, enjoyed this one way more than I was anticipating. Hopefully you'll be able to get a chance soon. I'll have to check to see if this one made some money opening week, or better suited for home video sales. I'm guessing it didn't do that great at the box office as I didn't see any more commercials. Non Stop with Liam Neeson was tough competition, along with a full list of other films.

---------
Car chase movie fans, Need for Speed is a must see, with some very fast and very well filmed and cinematic car races. Some of the best I've seen in movies, being a fan of the Hollywood car chase classics. This one also gave a nod to the classic Bullet, playing on the drive in screen in the movie.

Awesome movie all the way! :

Love the feel of it. Not too serious, not overly childish like some F&F moments.
Keep in mind that no cgi was used in car scenes!

Awesome cars with Koeenegsegg, Veyrons, lambos, McLaren p1, etc.

GO SEE THIS!

Cool. Yeah, those car scenes were great and really well filmed.
Did you get to check out the 3D version? It's worth it.

I hope the movie did enough sales to make some money, but if not, maybe on video it can earn something back. Theatrical releases these days for more unique themed movies are a tough sell in the US anyway. Drive caught on really well, but, here is the latest earnings at theaters:

Need for Speed 3D
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/...edforspeed.htm

Domestic Total as of Mar. 24, 2014: $31,235,650
Distributor: Buena Vista Release Date: March 14, 2014
Genre: Action Runtime: 2 hrs. 10 min.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 Production Budget: $66 million
Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $31,235,650 24.5%
+ Foreign: $96,100,000 75.5%
= Worldwide: $127,335,650
Domestic Summary
Opening Weekend: $17,844,939
(#3 rank, 3,115 theaters, $5,729 average)
% of Total Gross: 57.1%

So 127mil worldwide is not bad, but keeping in mind, the theaters probably take half of that maybe, then the cost for promotion of the film is extra.

Looking forward to this on blu ray 3D.

Of course I saw it in 3D. The visuals were great. I am a huge car fanatic, so that wasn't the part of the film that impressed me the most. I really liked the open roads of Middle America, like something out of gumball rally. 3d added a fair amount to the experience.

While the P1 and all the American muscle cars were really cool, I thoutheght the rest of the supercars felt a little flat. I realize they were replicas, and maybe that's why they looked like they were made of cardboard and flexing while being driven. The flat black lambo looked spray painted. The red Koeenegsegg looked plastic. The Mustang was too generic and there wasn't a single porsche in the film.

I loved the part with the cop at the gas station in Idaho and all the flying shenanigans!

Cool. Yeah, the 3D was a nice addition to this one.
That scene with the cop at the station. That was hilarious.
Lots of cool stunts in this one.
My favorite scene would be the trio race on the freeway, and Aaron Paul on the wrong way of the freeway while still racing the other two on the right side of the road. Crazy and the sense of speed really well done.

I am still seeing the Mustang Ford Commercial featuring NFS the movie, showing the red new version (which only appears at the end actually), but you're right, I didn't see many ads featuring the 3D aspect other than maybe once right before the movie was released.

The 3D was a last minute decision, but turned out very nice (mostly medium 3D), as proven by the fact the stereo 3D credits only appeared after then final Dreamworks logo flashed after the main credits.

Is the UK version region locked? I don't mind ordering from Amazon UK. But if it will suck if it's locked.

Chances of it not being locked are pretty slim going by the track record of Entertainment One.

Disney seems to be out of the 3D game now - at least on a consumer level. I'm about ready to accept that home 3D is dying.
