Default lets go back to 1:85 and fill our tv screens

I think they should release movies in 1:85 again so it fills peoples tv screens so they get the screen size theyve paid for and not the top and bottom cutting off.

This isn't going to turn out good. . I do like when my whole 120 inch screen is fillled but I don't wanna sacrifice misssing pieces/scenes of movies just for that. Whatever the OAR is, is what should be used. For example, back in the day I never knew all the stuff I was missing by having the Star Wars movies in Fullscreen. I had seen them millions of times and when I got the widescreen versions in just about every scene I saw things I never had before.

Well 1:85 is still widescreen the films youre talking about are pan and scan 4:3

Yes, but if you played star wars in 1:85 you would be cutting parts out from the sides in the scenes. I hate Black Bars as much as anyone (need the masquerade carada system but too pricey for me) but whatever aspect ratio the director shot the movie in is what I want to see so I get the full effect.

Lets be clear here, there is a difference between pan and scan and a OAR of 4:3. Pan and Scan is the process to create a 4:3 aspect ratio on a non 4:3 ratio film. There are many films that the OAR was 4:3, such as Evil Dead or Wizard Of Oz. So just because its 4:3 does NOT mean its pan and scan.

Me? HBO crops all their movies to 1:85. At least, when I've seen SW Ep III, and Matrix Revolutions.

If I own any TV, I don't want a cropped movie.

They top and bottom aren't being cut off!!! I'm getting so sick of these threads. The movies with black bars are filmed in an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 or higher. Widescreen TVs are 1.78:1. If you want those movies to fill your screen, you will be cutting off the sides of the picture. If you don't like "black bars" use the zoom funciton on your TV to fill the screen.

I almost think it should be a bannable offense at this point.

What if films were filmed in 1:85:1 ratio? Nothing would be cropped.
