I always found it hilarious that Stallone on the cover is in shorts and a tank top in the dead of winter.....

Looks like a bad 80s workout video cover, too.

Booty by Stallone.

That cover really is comical. Makes me want to photoshop it with a comic voice bubble over him that says “...Sarah...?” All kidding aside, though, I saw this in the theater when it came out expecting a light adventure film and was totally traumatized by that opening sequence.

One thing I have never liked about Cliffhanger (despite always enjoying the film overall) is just how mean-spirited it feels. Anyone else feel that way about it? Agonizing slow-mo for every innocent person who dies, etc. I dunno, just always felt a bit needlessly sadistic in tone. But...I still like the movie.

Pretty sure that photo is in the first scene when Gabe 'loses her' and it's not in winter. Suns out guns out.

No wonder the StudioCanal version came with Dolby Atmos.

For some strange reason, I thought that maybe studios were sharing the 4K encodes across their various releases in different regions, but I guess not. Does that mean, for example, that Sony’s encode could have quite a different HDR pass, than Studio Canal’s disc?

It's not strange, as some studios are actually doing 'one size' discs that are the same the world over, hence some discs having upwards of 10-15 audio tracks and yet more subtitles. But that's where x studio owns the movie the world over, when you get two different distributors then things can be done locally e.g. StudioCanal have done their own encodes of several Lionsgate movies for release in Europe.

That being the case, I'll bet cash money that the actual HDR grade and Atmos mix of Cliffhanger will be identical, but the encoding may well be different between the two and picking Sony over StudioCanal isn't even a choice that needs making, there's only one way to go.

Ah, I thought that the new 4K UHD codecs meant that the encoding couldn’t be messed up so easily now, but I guess not. Sony should definitely be a safer bet than SC then.

Yup, cancelled. The longer wait will be hella painful but it's the only sane choice.

Indeed. Not like there isn't a thousand things to watch in the meantime.

Never bought this film on Blu due to reported audio issues on the B-territory versions, so will definitely be picking this up.

It's £20 less to pay in November, it got dropped like a hot potato.

Also moved the Rambos over to the US discs. £44 with digital codes versus £60 with shit artwork, isn't much of a decision to make.
