Weird how there are scattered Gran Turismo screenings weeks in advance. Even managed to steal one IMAX showtime from Oppenheimer here.

Went to Alamo Drafthouse to see Oppenheimer today (It was fantastic) and they have already relegated it to two showings in its smallest theater. My particular Alamo is also not going to show Demeter at all. The person I spoke to at Alamo about this implied that Universal seems to have limited expectations for its performance, which is a shame, cause the trailer really hooked me.

So is this going to be a thing like how movies were called Die Hard on a ______?

We already had Dracula on a plane. When will we get Dracula on a Train?

i'm sure these terrible jokes that everyone is copying and not coming up with themselves has no effect at all.

universal is also bungling this release. i don’t know how you don’t sell this as a hard r, practical fx movie. but then again, horror audiences are embarrassing. so that isn’t guaranteed to work.

Would it have helped to put "Dracula" in the title for marketing purposes?

Ok, here's one of mine. Instead of Vlad the Impaler, how about Vlad the Sailor?

What's going to suck is that Universal will most likely release Demeter only on BD like they did with Black Phone, Kandahar,, and Renfield. I've noticed a trend on underperformers given only the BD treatment. Granted, they save the 4K for digital.

Its early yet... but Amazon has a preorder page up for Demeter, only DVD and Bluray as options. Hopefully they come through a little later with the 4k option, like what happened with Evil Dead Rise.

EDR is WB and Demeter is Universal. Universal already has a track record. Digital 4K is a given and most likely on Peacock, as well. I have a feeling the movie will bomb and will be on Peacock in 45 days or so.

The early reviews I've been seeing are fair to middling. I think you are probably right. Personally still interested to see it, but since my favorite local theater isn't playing it, probably gonna wait for home media (was really hoping for that 4k though).

At least there’s UHDs of The Black Phone and Kandahar coming overseas. I’m not sure if this is going to get one.

It opens in Taiwan on the 18th.

Yeah when it comes to receiving blu-ray only releases, even more relatively higher budget stuff like Ruby Gillman isn’t safe. A lot of Focus releases miss out as well. I do think though there’s a view Universal has that despite the recent likes of The Black Phone, Violent Night, and Cocaine Bear all performing decently in their theatrical runs and making their budgets back, Universal views them as “B-tier” movies and are holding off on pressing 4K releases of those and some other titles in favor of future licensing to someone one else (perhaps Shout/Scream seems most likely), I personally would love to see Asteroid City and a couple other Focus titles get 4K Criterion releases as well. Strays will likely be next to skip a 4K release.

No trailer before current movies in the theater means this is doomed to underperform. It's gonna need strong word of mouth which it currently has none. I voted $6-8 million just because of the genre, but really I'm thinking $4 million. Barbie will beat it.

Apparently GT took £211k on Friday, which puts it in 6th. Not completely abysmal, and ahead of both MI7 (in it's 5th week) and Elemental (in it's 6th week), but nothing to shout about either.

Looking like $6.5M for Demeter, that's a disaster. Dracula is dead.
