Sony Pictures The Grudge (2020)

Quote:
Nicolas Pesce has been set to rewrite and direct The Grudge reboot for Ghost House Pictures. Pesce, who made his directorial debut on the critically acclaimed 2016 Sundance pic The Eyes Of My Mother, will resuscitate the Takashi Shimazu-directed 2004 film that helped establish the viability of low-cost genre films. The new film is based on a script by Midnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhler, and it will be produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Erin Westerman and Romel Adam will oversee for Ghost House.

Could be interesting if it involves the story from Ju-On: The Curse, the two films that came out before Ju-On: The Grudge.

Minimal faith in this. J horror is very dated. A lot of the original movies that saw remakes have little impact now.

From Whispering Corridors, Shutter and even Ringu are just guilty pleasures now. Pulse and Dark Water hold up well though.

J-Horror has evolved too, but Hollywood doesn't realize that yet.

The Sarah Michelle Gellar version was so awful you could only improve on it. That being said, it feels more like a "let's capitalize on the name" than a "let's try to do this justice" product.

It's dumbed down, but I wouldn't say it was bad

the 2000s J-horrors held up more than the classic slashers imo

Demian Bichir, and Andrea Riseborough Have Joined The Grudge!!

Quote:
Demian Bichir and Andrea Riseborough will star in Sony’s new take on the horror classic “The Grudge.”

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions recently picked up worldwide rights to the film. SPWA, Ghost House, and Good Universe last collaborated on the hit thriller “Don’t Breathe".

“We are so excited about this new adaptation,” Raimi said. “We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.”

The pic will begin shooting in May.

I guess I'm morbidly curious to see what they change up this time. Not enough to see it in theaters though.

8 original movies, a VS movie, a remake with two original sequels, what more is there to cover...

I guess the American setting for the origin is a little different. Maybe they will name the spirits Karen and Thomas

I normally have no problem with these things. but no. just no.

But I guess this is what we get for seeing the same things recycled again and again Anything different comes out and people say no. yet say yes to something we don't need that's already a known property. Cause those are what sell to the general public. YAY!

Riseborough's lost a tonne of weight in the last year or so and she was never overweight to begin with so she's gone proper skinny now:

It's not a healthy look imo, not sure if she did it for a film role and has put weight on in recent months or if she's going through issues with her weight or not.
