Paramount Paramount Multi-Format (4K/BD/DVD/Digital) Wave

I really wasn't sure where to post this. Last night, I saw a bunch of Paramount 4K pre-orders (releasing May 21st) show up at Amazon for a low price of $10.99. Now cover art has been posted, and it looks like it's including 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital in one package..and that package looks to be DVD-sized .. Like I said, these are quite cheap at $10.99, but I can't imagine many, if any 4K collector's wanting these.

List of Titles:

A Quiet Place
Beverly Hills Cop
Cloverfield
Escape from L.A.
Interstellar
The Lost City
Shutter Island
The Hunt for Red October
The Untouchables

This is weird. I'd buy Shutter Island and Quiet Place for $10 on UHD alone but have never seen that pop up. There must be a catch?

I found a few database entries for some as Walmart exclusives. So I guess these are the wide releases of them.

Yeah it's weird. Like, who exactly is their target audience here? People who are still buying DVD's are very unlikely to jump to 4K, and people wanting to buy 4K's likely don't want them in DVD packaging, so it's honestly a head-scratcher why these exist at all. It's not like the movies in their respective formats and packaging are all that expensive anyway.

If only it came with a VHS tape, then you'd have all the major formats covered! You'd always have a backup!

Yeah…not a fan of the DVD cases. It reminds of Disney’s stupid idea they had near the beginnings of blu-ray. You could buy a blu-ray and DVD in either a blu-ray case or DVD case. Stupid. DVD cases were probably more convenient/available to hold three disc than a 4K case.

I'm not crazy about DVD cases either, but if this is what it takes to get rid of DVD only SKU's I'm all for it.

It's another tone deaf way to appeal to people that never upgraded from DVD. Put them in DVD cases and then try to convince them people to buy them.

Blu-ray and UHD really just need better marketing on why people should update from DVD. That ship has long since sailed though.

Back when I had friends who actually came over (i.e. before they had kids) I would show them the benefits of BDs over DVDs and they'd literally tell me they didn't see a difference. We were always destined for a niche market future.

Well, least one can get Escape From LA without worrying about bad discs again now nor having to hunt it down in Wal-Mart.

For ten bucks, who cares what kind of packaging.

IMO, people who don't buy things strictly because of the packaging never really cared about the movie.

I bet those are Walmart because I've already seen such combos with the exact 4k/Blu/DVD stripe on the top of the cover art.

Those with shelves that are high enough to hold Blu-Ray cases. but are too short for DVD cases.
