Default GameStop Ceases HD DVD Trade-In Policy

Not only did they buy a piece of junk, they can't get rid of it.

GameStop this morning confirmed that the major gaming retailer will no longer accept HD DVD items for trade-in. That includes used HD discs or Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on drives. The policy – which virtually ensures that your additional HD drive will become a dinosaur in your own living room – takes effect today.

As for Microsoft's response to the demise of HD DVD, the company released this statement:

"We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. As we've long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry. We will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room along with playback of the DVD movies they already own."

They really are out to screw their customers. Maybe they will flock to Blu-ray, where the companies don't pay people off for $150 million or tell lies or screw their customers out of releases.

Is there really that much of a price differential between gamestop trade in values and the trashcan anyway?

Especially for those poor ****s who spent 199$ on it. Ouch!

Bundle it on ebay with 10 hddvdmovies for 25$ (including shipping) and be done with it.

I talked someone out of buying this a week ago at out local GameCrazy. I hope he's thanking me. I'm sure GameCrazy won't be far behind GameStop's new policy.

Come on. It sucks, but it's NOT screwing their customers. Look at it from their POV. Thousands.

Tens of thousands of movies and drives.

That they have to process and then store.

KNOWING they won't be able to get rid of a 10th of them.

It's sound business. I'd do it, too.

They would be stupid to accept them. Unless they gave less than $1 a movie. That way they could at least make back some of the money they laid out.
