Default Rumor Target to stop selling Physical Media by 2025

Apparently this guy is full of crap as seen in the Target Deals thread so take it with a grain of salt.

The funny is people are continuing to cancel their accounts. Especially Netflix and Disney/Hulu. But then again I don't know how well the free apps (Tubi, Pluto [own by Paramount], and alike) are doing.

Absolutely.

I was a fan of having a home with Netflix and Hulu as the main items of business. If Amazon Prime wants to be there, have at it. Overall, these would come out here far after the Blu-ray releases, and the digital copies you got with the disc were the great equalizer to streaming.

I loathe the direction we're going as an overall. When Luca went to Disney+ day-and-date with theaters back in business, it was then that I said Disney could go **** themselves. I realize I'm very late in the matter saying that, but that was my tipping point.

I agree that tons of returns/exchanges for scratched discs cannot possibly be helping physical media, and that's due to the Mexico plant. I buy a lot of German-manufactured discs too and they very rarely have scratches, and nowhere near as bad as the Mexican discs we get in the US.

I believe it, even from unreliable narrators, since my Target has only the four sided new release rack. They've crammed most everything into it and books have taken over the rest.

It seemed pretty obviously when browsing any Target store over the past year or so. So that would essentially leave Walmart and Amazon. As we all know Amazon will just price match Walmart which means Walmart can charge $25 - $30 for 4K titles. Walmart never has a sale and their Black Friday sucks. I guess the future is paying 2x to 3x as much for titles now that Best Buy is out of the game. Atleast there is Gruv, if only other studios would follow their lead. You can’t beat their sales, although they’re getting somewhat repetitive with the selection.

LOL, President of Bullshit is once again getting crap shared so his Twitter engagement goes up. Oof.

It's also hilarious that he says "exclusive" as if there hasn't been news about this or that most of us haven't been witnessing the store section shrink.

The best way to combat this goon is to say "citation needed, evidence required"

Granted I don't doubt it, but at the same time, until a more reputable source comes out about this, this claim should be rejected.

I believe everytime someone says this to him he gets plays it off like he's gotten so many reports right (many of them are practically guesses, very obvious and logical guesses) and blocks you. It's worse feeling when you see people support this guy as being a big dude in the physical media community, only makes him want to keep up this crap more.

Every store that drops physical discs is another "nail in the coffin" for physical media, whether you shop there personally or not.

Is there anybody surprised by this after Best Buy? Just accept that disc collecting is a niche thing. It's not gonna get any better.

Loosing online sales would really suck. Can't say anything about in-store, the only ones around here just have the new-release four-way left.

The irony is that the media section was overtaken by physical books and vinyl records - a medium that many thought was dying and a format that was dead for a time. Let's hope physical movies can make a similar comeback someday.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. Some of the younger generation is already exploring the "importance of tactile sensation." Some just think the past is better (take a look at the rise of landline phone use in teenagers). A lot of old things seem to become new again when people realize they shouldn't have been done away with in the first place (like vinyl records which still sound better than anything else).

Streaming is still relatively new, but just because it's new doesn't make it a step in the right direction. Five, ten years from now I'd be willing to bet blu-rays/4Ks will be popular again (or maybe even a new form of physical medium for film lovers to enjoy).
