I think 1 or more retailers will drop (or start to phase out) HD DVD. This will then cause Paramount and Universal to go neutral initially (and blu-ray exclusive eventually). Finally, because of the above, we'll have at least one week with a 95:5 ratio.
IMO, the retailers are the key. Once they start phasing out HD DVD (more than what we've seen so far), I think things will start moving pretty quickly. If for some reason, they don't start phasing out HD DVD, I think there's a chance that HD DVD will hang around for a while just b/c Toshiba, Paramount and Universal seem to be pretty stubborn about the whole thing (also don't think Paramount and Universal will go neutral in that scenario). Simply put, I think retailers will have to force the issue. Last edited by owa; 02-04-2008 at 06:09 PM. |

The way I see it, Paramount and/or Universal will have to go neutral sometime these next 6 months or risk loosing a lot of money and support. This will be assured by retailers dropping HD DVD and supporting only Blu-ray. And as part of the natural cycle of things, BD players will drop under $250 to compete with HD DVD and DVD. With all this going on, we will ikely see one day of about 95:5 sales.
I HOPE that LotR or SW will at least get announced that they are being worked on, but I don't think they will be released in that time frame. If this year at all, in time for the holidays. Neither Paramount nor Universal are likely to drop HD DVD, Venture is too small and insignificant to matter and i don't think it can start supporting Blu-ray that quickly, too many things involved for it to drop (like contracts), no Blu studios will go "purple" with all the boost Blu-ray is getting in sales lately, and I doubt Toshiba will ever give up until the horse is thoroughly dead and beaten into a fine pulp. |

Most unlikely event is a Blu-ray studio going purple
![]() Second most unlikely event is Toshiba throwing in the towel. |

I voted:
Paramount/Uni going neutral A major retailer would drop HDDVD a 95:5 week Im confident each will happen, in which order they will happen is debatable. I dont see the others happeneing though, except maybe the $250 BD. I should have voted for that one too. |

I doubt it's possible for either Universal or Paramount to be listed as 'Neutral'(at least for long) because as soon as that happens HD DVD would collapse. So 'Neutral' means obviously 'exclusive' and instantaneous HD DVD downfall. what would one studio left with HD DVD amount to being - 15% of films being exclusive to HD DVD & 85% Blu-ray
